We’d like to invite you to discover one of the most beautiful and interesting via ferratas in the Briançon region: the Mines du Grand Clôt in La Grave, in Oisans. This via ferrata offers a wonderful immerson into the history of the ancient miners and a spectacular view over La Meije.

The mines of the Oisans exploited silver, iron and lead for hundred of years, from the 14th Century to the beginning of the 19th Century. This historical via ferrata is located on the site of the former mines that closed down in 1926. It is both a cultural and sporty experience, as it is a quite long round.

Along the via ferrata, there are information panels with the history of miners of yesteryear. The first sections of steel rope of the via ferrata are located on the site of the old mine. We will see there typical elements of mining activity. We will also see the galleries that were dug by hand in the 7th century.

Besides, the Mines du Grand Clot via ferrrata allows us to enjoy a memorable view on the plateaus above the village of Chazelet.

Our departure altitude is 1328 meters and we finish at 2121 meters.  The via ferrata is rated as D difficulty level in France (Difficult), so it is recommended for experienced climbers.

What people are saying about E-S Adventure Guides

Kylie

Having tried indoor bouldering, we wanted to experience what outdoor bouldering is like. Leo was knowledgeable and ensured our safety. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

Nikoline

We had a great day with Ivan. He picked a nice area for exploring bouldering at Font and he was good at pushing our boundaries in an empathic way.

Jerald

It was our first time outdoor bouldering and Ivan was extremely friendly and prioritized safety. He also helped guide us through the different routes and outdoor bouldering techniques.

Joshua

My teenage son and I spent two afternoons in April bouldering with our guide, Leo, in Fontainebleau. Leo was an excellent guide and teacher. He selected boulders that were both challenging and within our skill level. Leo also share fun information about the area we were bouldering in and gave helpful information to make sure we got to the right place at the right time. We highly recommend Leo and would gladly do another bouldering excursion with him.

Claudia

I was in Paris for a few days and really wanted to try bouldering at Fontainebleau, but since it was my first time and I didn’t have any friends to go with, I wasn’t sure how to make it happen. A quick Google search led me to Explore Share, and even before I booked anything, they were super responsive and helpful with all my questions. On the day itself, my guide Ivan was amazing—he helped me read the routes, build trust in the footholds, figure out the beta, and even showed me how to downclimb safely. Overall, a fantastic experience and I’m so glad I went for it!
