Description

Situated just 25 minutes southwest of Cluj-Napoca, the Faget Forest is an ideal spot for heading out on a day-long mountain biking odyssey!

While plenty of trails crisscross through this thick and verdant forest, one of the most popular options is to take the 21.2-kilometer Faget Forest Route.

Starting near the town of Floresti, the route takes us through the forest and gradually up a hill until we head out above the trees and receive some magnificent views back over Cluj-Napoca as well as out toward the Carpathian Mountains.

While 21 kilometers may seem like a long way, on a bicycle the kilometers will fly by. Overall, expect to gain and then lose about 500 meters in elevation with a maximum grade of 13 percent.

The relative ease of this route, which is used for the annual MTB marathon, makes it perfect for families and groups of friends looking for a relaxing day trip out of doors.

Mountain Guide

My name is Catalin. I am based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. I am a passionate skier, mountain biker, climber and photographer, certified as a Mountain Guide, Ski Instructor, MTB Guide and Camp Leader.

I've been skiing all my life, since I was around three years old, and I couldn't imagine winter without ski or without the cold days on the white slopes. Mountain biking is the sport that fills in the summer days, when snow is missing. Shredding up and down the trails keeps the mind focused and the muscles fit.

Climbing is what challenges me to overcome my limits and makes me want to become better and better. And, last, but not least, photography is how I try to capture the beauty of nature and people and share it with everyone else.

I am trying to seed my passions in the hearts of youngsters and when I am not guiding I am working with children in MTB, ski, media creation or adventure camps.

I am looking forward towards meeting you so that I can share with you the great beauty of the Romanian mountains and offer you a memorable adventure.

Absolutely excellent trip! Guide Cata was spectacular at assessing our skill level and picking the perfect trail. We would love to travel again with him. The trails around Cluj are great for MTB. I was less impressed with the ExploreShare interface. It was clunky to use and I wasn’t sure if messages were getting through. I did manage to find an excellent guide and experience, so I guess it all worked.
