Just one look at the magnificent Naranjo de Bulnes, that is otherwise known as the Picu Urriellu in Asturian, and you know you’re in for a climbing treat. It stands tall in the gorgeous Picos de Europa in the Cantabrian mountains. Dating back millions of years, this limestone tower, while not the highest mountain in Spain, is definitely one of the most known.
When it comes to which route we will take on this climb of the Naranjo de Bulnes on this 2 day trip the decision will be made based on your skill level and experience. So if you are a climber with plenty of experience, then you will get to pick any one of the great routes. However, even if you’re not that experienced, there will still be thrilling options for you as well.
The peak has four faces that you can climb. And each one of the faces is unique. As a result, each face presents its own set of challenges, and rewards.
The easiest of the four faces is the South face where you can take the La Directa de Martinez route. The North face has the oldest route, the Pidal-Cainejo, which has been in use since 1904. The East face has 2 ways to the top, Via Cepeda and the Amistad con el Diablo. And finally, the West face offers the Murciana 78, and the famous Rabada-Navarro route.
Climbing the Naranjo de Bulnes is a great adventure. So send me a request, choose a face, and enjoy an unforgettable experience.
I can also lead you to the top of the beautiful Pena Vieja peak on this 1 day trip.
