Description

I have the honor to propose you this amazing ski touring program in Oetztal, a ski jewel of the Alps!

Oetztal is a valley located in the south of Austrian Tyrol, near the Italian and Swiss border, with excellent mountain lodges and memorable ski descents.

As you may know, Austria is an alpine country par excellence. It has fantastic ski options for those who love the multi-day hut to hut programs. I think that Oetztal is one of those places that every mountain skier should visit once in life.

Furthermore, the valley is surrounded by worldwide famous massifs as the Silvretta, the Ortles-Cevedale, the Stubai, the Zillertal and the Lechateler. So, with good weather, the views are really unbeatable.

The Wildspitze, at 3,772 meters, is the highest peak of the massif with numerous sub-peaks of more than 3000 meters. In addition, during the ski tour we will also find a great number of glaciers covering almost all the valley. The largest and most impressive one is the Hintereisferner, known as the longest in the area.

I can lead a group of 4 skiers minimum and 6 as maximum. The perfect season to come to Austrian Tyrol is from March till May.

All the participants must have a good fitness level and some previous experience in ski touring. Moreover, you have to bring your own technical equipment. If someone does not have arva + shovel + probe I can get it.

So, what are you waiting for to contact me? I am here, ready to guide through the most outstanding descents of Oetztal!

Itinerary

Day 1: Meeting point

Trip to Tyrol. Possibility to travel by plane to Munich or Isnbruck. Also in private vehicles. Let’s decide.

Day 2: Langtalereck hutte - Schalfkogel Joch - Martin Busch Hütte

Arrival in Tyrol. Village of Ober-Gurgl at 1930 m. Climb to Langtalereck Hütte 2438 m, 3 hours. First day of the tour with appreciable altitude change and supreme skiing.

Day 3: Martin Busch Hutte - Similaun Peak - Similaun Hütte

Today we will ascend the first summit of the tour, leaving the skis below and reaching it with piolet and crampons. The Similaun hutte is in Italy, change of country for one day!

Day 4: Similaun Hütte -Hauslabjoch - Schöne Aussicht (Bella Vista) Hütte.

A glacier crossing without difficulty. The hut is a beautiful place and provides a hot shower.

Day 5: Schöne Aussicht hutte - Weisskugel Peak - Hochjoch Hospiz

Good descent by a track to the base to catch a cable way up to 3020 meters of height. We then reach the Teufelsegg Joch. After descending, we continue towards the summit of the Weisskugel, the highest of Tyrol. There is a medium-difficulty climb to reach the top. Beautiful views of all Austrian Tyrol. The last climb (20 min) is done with the skis in the backpack to the mountain hut, a nice house with a mountain climbing museum!

Day 6: Hochjoch Hospiz - Vernagt Hütte

Today it’s time to a glacier crossing, without technical difficulty. We’ll reach our next refuge, more modern than the previous one and really impressive.

Day 7: Ascension to the Wildspitze (3.772m) - Vernagt Hütte

Ascent of the highest summit of the massif and descent to the Vernagt Hutte.

Day 8: Vent

Descent to the Vent valley and end of the program.

Martin provided us with a challenging weekend that stretched and developed our skiing a lot. He was very responsive to our feedback tailoring the programme as we went. Would absolutely book him again.

We enjoyed this trip in the Alps very much!! It was an excellent introduction to mountaineering and the stunning peaks of the Alps massive. Our guide Martin made the full experience a succes; pushing us to the limits, keeping us safe at difficult rocky ascents, but also taking time to enjoy the scenery and the climb. Thanks a lot for the beautiful pictures too!

Excellent experience! Martin is a real expert guide and he managed to adapt the program even when the snow conditions were poor so that we still got to do everything we wanted. Very honest, reliable, and friendly guide. He's very education focussed so we came away from the holiday with a lot of new skills as well. Outstanding trip.

This was a great 4-day hut-to-hut ski experience in the Pyrenees. The national park of Aiguestortes is beautiful and we had a lot of snow. Martin is a professional and social guide. He makes sure that the trip takes place from a pleasant and secure way. Due to the weather conditions we couldn't do the climb to the Montardo and to the Ratera, but Martin organized some alternatives to enjoy the 4 days. We were an international group and could communicate with Martin in English.
