Discover the wild side of the French Alps on a six-day Tarentaise Ski Safari through the Vanoise National Park, visiting Les Trois Vallées, Les Arcs and Val d’Isère–Tignes.
Guided by IFMGA-certified alpine guides, you’ll hunt for the best off-piste snow, enjoy long descents and optional skinning or short ski-mountaineering sections — lifts can be used for most days.
You’ll base in three mountain towns (Val Thorens, Sainte-Foy, Val d’Isère); luggage stays at the hotels while you carry only a day pack with essentials.
The route is flexible and can be adapted to conditions and ability, with private transfers between bases.b Groups are small (max six), so you get focused instruction, safer lines and a social, relaxed après-ski vibe

Meeting point
Meet your guide in Bourg-Saint-Maurice for a private transfer to Val Thorens. After hotel check-in there will be a short briefing about the week followed by dinner. Hotel in Val Thorens (half board).
We begin with an on-piste warm-up to assess ability, then a one-hour practical session on avalanche transceiver use. The rest of the day is dedicated to finding the best snow — pure freeride lines, or a mix of freeride and skinning depending on conditions. Highlights include the La Borgne glacier, the summit of Péclet and options such as the Face Ouest or the Bouchet descent into the lower valley. Hotel in Val Thorens (half board). Lunch in a refuge or packed.
Explore quieter off-piste itineraries like Lac du Lou, the “valley without a name,” and runs around the Aiguille de Fruit. In the evening we transfer by private vehicle to Sainte-Foy for accommodation and dinner. Hotel in Sainte-Foy (half board). Lunch in a refuge or packed.
Take lifts to reach L’Aiguille Rouge (3,226 m) for a spectacular off-piste descent of over 1,500 m to Villaroger. In the afternoon enjoy freeride laps on the wild slopes of Peisey-Vallandry and Les Arcs 1850, guided according to snow conditions. Hotel in Sainte-Foy (half board). Lunch in a refuge.
After a short skin ascent (≈1 h 20 min) we reach the Pointe de la Foglietta for a legendary north-face descent into pristine terrain. Return to Sainte-Foy on skis and then transfer to our hotel near Val d’Isère. Hotel in Val d’Isère (half board). Lunch in a refuge or packed.
A full day in the Espace Killy exploring La Daille, Bellevarde and Solaise — steep lines, technical itineraries and world-class snow. Overnight in Val d’Isère. Hotel in Val d’Isère (half board). Lunch in a refuge.
Finish the safari around the Grande Motte glacier (3,656 m). Depending on conditions, your guide will select the best lines — Balme sector, Mickey Ears descent, or other secret runs. Final night in Val d’Isère. Hotel in Val d’Isère (half board). Lunch in a refuge.
After breakfast a private transfer returns you to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, where trains to the airports are available for your onward journey.
Disclaimer
Skills Required You should be a strong on-piste skier with solid side-country and freeride experience. Depending on your technique and ski-mountaineering fitness, the itinerary can be adjusted to match your abilities. This program is best suited for skiers with excellent off-piste descent skills and moderate uphill experience using skins.
You will need a 30-liter ski mountaineering backpack and full ski equipment, including skis, boots, skins, poles, and a helmet. An avalanche safety kit with transceiver, shovel, and probe is required. A harness, crampons, and an ice axe may be requested if glacier routes are included; these items can be rented locally if needed. An ABS backpack might also be required depending on conditions and the guide’s chosen itinerary, and can likewise be rented on site. All technical equipment is available for rental if you prefer not to bring your own.
For clothing and accessories, bring high-mountain or glacier sunglasses, a ski mask, sunscreen, lip balm, a warm hat, a Buff or neck gaiter, and ski gloves plus a lighter pair for climbing. A mid-layer for uphill sections, a waterproof shell, and a base layer are necessary. Ski mountaineering trousers combined with tights—ideally shell pants worn over tights—are recommended. Don’t forget appropriate ski socks.
