If you are interested in venturing yourself into glacier hiking for the first time, I have the perfect plan for you. Join me on this 1-day experience on the Mer de Glace glacier in Chamonix, an ideal program for beginners!
You will be hiking on a glacier surrounded by some legendary peaks of the Mont Blanc Massif, as the Aiguille du Dru, the Aiguille Verte, the Grandes Jorasses and the Aiguille des Grands Charmoz. The Mer du Glace is the largest glacier in France and one of the main attractions in the Chamonix valley.
We will meet at the Montenvers train station in Chamonix in the morning. We will take the train up to Montenvers station and from there we walk down the stair to start walking on the glacier.
Once on the Mar de Glace, we will put our equipment on: the harness, the crampons on our mountain boots and we will take the ice axe. Then I will show you the basic skills you need to walk safely on the glacier. Depending on the group skills, we can do a small initiation in steep ice climbing technique as well.
This program is a perfect initiation into the high mountain world for a beginner who wants to discover mountaineering or just to enjoy walkin on the glacier in full safety, supervised by an experienced mountain guide.
Although you don’t need previous glacier experience, a good balance is required as the first part of the walk on the glacier is on some unstable ground, with some small rocks.
So what are you waiting for? Book your place and join me for a glacier hike on the amazing Mer de Glace in Chamonix.
