Description

An exciting autonomous ski expedition, exploring the frozen white world of the North Pole.

From the frozen Arctic Ocean to the North Pole, we'll traverse for 10 days in the ice, immersing ourselves in an intense and remote environment. A unique experience on an ice world of overwhelming beauty!

You will be able to ski 110 kilometers from 89° to 90°. You will truly reach the top of the world! Every day, we'll be trekking on the pack ice between 8 to 10 hours (about 15 kilometers per day). Each of us will carry a pulka with equipment and food, and camp on the polar ice in complete autonomy.

I strongly recommend you to take part on an initiation weekend or a mini-expedition (like the one I guide in Svalbard) before going on this trip.

If you want to be a part of such an unforgettable adventure, please get in touch with me. I will be happy to explain you all the details of this expedition and answer the questions you might have.

About the guide

Polar Experience is a Polar guiding agency designed and created by Dixie Dansercoer and managed by Julie Brown.

Dixie Dansercoer (12 July 1962 – 7 June 2021) was a Belgian polar explorer with thirty years of experience in polar travel and expeditions. He went to the poles on 34 occasions, for personal or guided expeditions, photo and film productions, and lectures aboard polar cruises.

He received the title of ‘Master Guide’ in the newly established IPGA platform (International Polar Guides Association) and he's one of only four people to have crossed the complete Arctic Ocean and the Antarctic continent.

In 2012, together with Sam Deltour, Dixie broke the world record for the longest non-motorized expedition to the South Pole. On skis, and assisted by a kite, they traveled at least 5013km.

He was the only polar guide who could provide expedition material for twelve expedition members, in the Arctic (Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen) the Antarctic (Wolfs Fang, Queen Maud Land), and also in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland.

Today, the Dixie Dansercoer Team is led by Eric and Julie and his amazing and well-prepared team of guides, whom he trained himself. Please get in touch with them if you are interested in the different tours they are guiding. They will be happy to introduce you to the wonderful world of Polar Travel.

The short expedition in Greenland which I undertook with Dixie and a few others remains one of the most memorable voyages that I ever undertook. The delight of experiencing the polar nights and the sheer beauty of the frozen landscape, but also the constant fight against the cold and the fellowship built up in dealing with hostile elements remain lasting impressions on me.

To be a companion of Dixie is a true privilege which I did enjoy beyond the polar circles. Even when surpassing himself, he knows perfectly well the human limits in extreme hostile conditions and never will overstep the bounds when Nature & Ice take over command ... His charming wife Julie and daughter Robin are the two helpful secrets of his happiness and charisma.

Dixie is a great expedition leader with an impressive track record. What attracted me is that despite his world class level and experience, he can really grow people like you and me towards achieving a dream of enjoying a polar expedition. Dixie takes into account your personal fitness level and expedition experience and guides you upfront and during the expedition to your full potential. Moreover, he really succeeds in bringing a group together and instilling the values of the wild nature. Beyond the expedition, you learn about yourself, extreme nature and team spirit. In short, I can highly recommend an expedition with Dixie, who is a down to earth class act.
