Description

Join me on this 6-day ski touring trek through the Otztal Alps in Austria, a fun yet challenging adventure where we will ascend several summits, visit magnificent glaciers, descend down mountains on some of the freshest and pristine snow imaginable, and finally, climb the summit of the towering Wildspitze, the second highest mountain in Austria.

The Otztal Alps are located in the South of Austria, in the state of Tyrol, and have long been renowned for the wide range of winter outdoor activities that one can indulge in there. Its massive spread means there is ample space and a wide array of mountains on which to ski tour on, and conditions are ideal most days.

We meet at 9am on the first morning in the village of Obergurgl, and we begin the tour in earnest with an ascent to the Langtalereck hut above the Eisjochl.

The subsequent 2 days will be spent first descending to the Schalf Ferner, before ascending to the summit of the mighty Similaun, which includes a tricky last section involving getting over a ridge whilst carrying our skis in a rucksack.

We then drive to the Mitterkaseralm in South Tyrol, where we will stay the night in the Bella Vista Hut, which includes a relaxing sauna and hot tub!

The next two days will be centred around the mesmerizing White Ball summit via a glacier, a delightful looking stretch of snow and ice which we will climb over before climbing up the Fluchtkogel on the penultimate day.

The final day is spent tackling the ascent of the magnificent Wildspitze, a grueling climb which is well worth it once we reach the top, as the views are incredible and remarkable with the scenery of the large valleys and mountain tops stretching out before you taking the breath away.

We finish everything later that day when we head back to the start point, hopefully having made memories to last a lifetime and made you fall in love with the Otztal Alps even more.

Ski touring in the Otztal Alps is a once-in-a-lifetime experience – book now so you don’t miss out!

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
