Join me for a fantastic day in the Pyrenees to try something new in the snowy mountains. I propose a 1-day ski touring initiation, perfect to get into this fantastic world.
Are you tired of waiting in line to take the chairlift? Are you looking for a ski practice that connects you better to the mountain? Are you up for some physical effort? Then you are ready for ski touring!
The program starts some kilometers before the Mongie resort, in Artigues (1300m). We will ascent to the summit of Pene Lounque (2275m). Indeed, almost 1000 meters of altitude change, not bad for an initiation!
To fully enjoy the day, we will meet early in the morning: at 7AM in Artigues (but it can vary depending on the time of year as well as the weather). In this way, we will also avoid the crowds ascending to Mongie.
We might be able to carry the skis for a short section before putting on the seal skins (and knives if necessary). Then we will ascend for about 4 hours. The slope to reach the summit is quite constant.
The views from the summit over the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, the Montaigu, the Lheris and the Tarbes plain are exceptional!
After a short pause at the summit to enjoy the panorama and get some rest, a fantastic descent follows. Then we will have a picnic at the Tramazaygues cabins (1400m).
To participate, you need to be a good skier in pistes. Children from 13 years old can join.
Tempted to try ski touring? Then book this trip and let’s go together for an initiation in a beautiful environment! And if you already have some experience, have a look at this 6-day hut to hut ski touring program in Les Encantats.

What happens if I need to cancel the trip?
If you decide to cancel, you’ll get a 100% refund (minus fees) if the cancellation is notified up to 60 days before the start of the tour, a 75% refund (minus fees) if you cancel between 59 and 30 days before the start of the tour, and a 50% refund if you cancel between 29 and 21 days before the start of the tour. If you cancel less than 21 days before the first day of the tour, you won’t receive a refund.Take into account, however, that if accommodation, flights or transfers were included in the trip you booked, then a different policy may apply as the guide will be bound by the provider’s cancellation policy.
What happens if the guide cancels the trip because of bad weather/unsuitable conditions?
If bad weather or unsuitable conditions force the guide to cancel the trip, he or she will: a) propose a similar activity at a different place where conditions are better, or b) propose to postpone the activity until a later date, or c) cancel. If you refuse option a), our cancellation policy will apply. Please note, however, that the call to cancel a trip due to bad weather can only be made by the guide (not the client).
What happens if the guide doesn’t show up or cancels for personal reasons?
If the guide cancels for reason of injury or other, you will get a 100% refund on your trip.
You need to rent skis, skins, knives. I will provide AVD, shovel and probe (and crampons if necessary).
About the Guide
I became an aspirant guide in 2006 and then got fully certified in 2011. However, my passion for rock climbing and mountaineering was born well before that.
I've climbed some of the most difficult faces in the Alps (Grandes Jorasses North Face in winter, Mont Blanc South Face, etc) have travelled all over the world to climb, including the Andes, Nepal, Morocco, Canada, United States and Pakistan.
I started guiding in 2007, in Chamonix, as an aspirant guide and, after getting certified, in La Grave and the Dauphiné Alps. Please don't ask me to take you to Mont Blanc: I've climbed it more than 50 times!
In 2012, I participated in a Pyrenees Ski Traverse with Jean René Minelli and, as a guide, I've led many different expeditions including: Punta Hiunchulli (7152m in 2011), Greenland (exploratory ski expeditions in 2013 and 2014), Norway (2015) and Sweden (2017).
Based in the Lesponne with my partner Julie since 2016, I'm excited to take to discover the Pyrenees, the mountains of my first adventures.
