Highlights

This ski touring weekend in Abisko is a great way to get to know this pristine area in northern Sweden. You’ll be staying at the Abisko Mountain Lodge, which I own and operate, and we’ll use it as a base to explore the mountains nearby.

Every morning, we’ll drive my van to different spots around the lodge from where we’ll start our ski tour for the day. I like to take my clients and friends to: Laktatjakka, Rombakstotta, Spanstind and Vassittjakka.

We’ll decide on the itinerary taking into account the group’s skills and wishes and current conditions. I can take a maximum of 6 clients with me so that everybody can fit in the van.

What I love about this area is that. because mountain aren’t that high, you get to see the horizon over the peaks. I’m sure you’ll also enjoy the incredible views of the mountains and the sea!

Despite the area’s easy access, you’ll feel like if you were in the middle of nowhere. There are few mountain huts and nobody around, so it’s just you and the most pristine alpine environment — somewhere in between the Alps and Alaska!

This program is targeted to intermediate ski tourers. If needed, we can use Abisko’s backcountry terrain — known as the La Grave of Sweden — to test your skills before embarking on an actual ski tour.

This ski touring weekend program is all-inclusive (accommodation and meals are included in the price). If you’d like to extend this weekend program to 3, 4 or 5 days, we can add some heliskiing to the combo to access the higher mountains in the area.

To access the lodge, you can fly into Kiruna from where I can pick you up (1.5 hours approx). Alternatively, you can drive or take the train to the Abisko train station (located 300m from the lodge).

Sounds like an amazing weekend? It is! Contact me know and we’ll start planning your visit to this amazing spot in northern Sweden. You’ll spend an unforgettable weekend!

    About the Guide

Born in Sweden in 1954, I became an IFMGA-certified mountain guide in 1996. My specialties are skiing and climbing and I work mainly around Kiruna, Narvik and Riksgränsen.

I've been skiing since I was a young kid and for a while competed in the Filipstad Slalom Club. It was a couple of trips to the Alps, however, that got me interested in off-piste skiing — an interest that continued to grow strong over the years and turned into one of my passions.

In the 70's, I graduated from Police Academy and started working in Stockholm. Then came a couple of seasons in the Alps and the beginning of my climbing career.

In 1990, I moved permanently to Kiruna and worked in the local mountain rescue association for several years, which is why I know the Kebnekaise area so well. In 1996, I passed my IFMGA examination. Apart from taking my clients skiing and climbing, I have been involved in training new guides ever since.

I'm also a certified ski instructor and a certified telemark instructor.
