Sport climbing week in the Algarve, 8-day Introductory course on Cape St. Vincent in Sagres, Portugal

If you are a beginner looking to try rock climbing for the first time, then we have the perfect plan for you! Join us on this 8-day sport climbing Introductory Course, in the Cape St.Vincent area in Sagres, in the beautiful Algarve region, and get the basic skills you need to enjoy this exciting activity.

The course is also ideal for indoor climbers looking to transition to outdoor climbing. We will put theory into practice! The rocky outcrops of Sagres offer some of the best rock climbing possibilities on the Algarve coastline in Portugal, surrounded by impressive views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Every day, after breakfast at 8.30 we wil transfer to the crag, trying to make the most out of daylight hours for climbing. We will provide you with a packed lunch and guide you all along the chosen route. Our goal is to provide you with the basic skills and knowledge you need to confidently climb on different routes.

After a great day of climbing on the superb rock of Sagres we will finish the day with a delicious dinner with amazing food. We can have a drink in the village or at our lodge, talking over the climbing day, analysing your progress, suggesting improvements and planning the itinerary for the following day.

Our goal is to give you the skills and knowledge for further sport climbing experiences. This training will give you the tools to start leading  your own routes in a safe way. During these days we will go over the following topics:

• Pre climb warm ups & stretches

• Basic equipment use

• Belaying, from bottom, top / Lead belaying

• Belay devices, ropes, quickdraws

• Tying off anchors, safe lower off basic movement technique

• Core strength and position /How to use legs efficiently

• Different hand holds

• How to read a route

• Lead climb

• Finding Rests and Clippint techniques

• Falling /Climbing  rescue

It is not always that easy for climbers to transition from following climbs to leading them. This course will help you make that change along the guidance of experienced guides!
