Description

The Stubacher Sonnblick (3089m) is a wonderful peak in the Hoher Tauern, in Austria. It's right at the border between Salzburg and Tyrol.

This simple 3000 is a real experience in the unique scenery of the Granatspitz group.

It's easy to get there. Indeed, we can reach the Rudolfshütte (2311m) comfortably by cable car. Then the adventure begins as we start the actual ascent. We go past the Weißsee lake up to the Sonnblickkees. Finally, after a final slightly steeper section we reach the summit. All that's left is enjoying the wonderful view and the fun descent!

The ascent is 900m and we will do it in about 3 hours. This itinerary presents no particular technical difficulties. Therefore it's a great option if you don't have much ski touring experience. But you do need to be in good shape and have experience skiing on all terrain.

I am a IFMGA certified mountain guide and a climbing lover. I grew up in a small farm in Mittersiller Sonnberg. My parents used to show us the beauty of our mountains. When I was 10 years old I went ski touring for the first time and I really loved it. The next years, I started climbing walls which really fascinated me. I also participated in many competitions.

My career took me to Hohe Tauern National Park where I finished the ranger training to bring visitors to the beauties of my country.

In 2013, I got my official certificate as a mountain guide and ski instructor. A dream came true! Since 2014, I have been working a full time guide, guiding in different areas such as Ortler, Valais, Dolomites, Wilder Kaiser, Muztagh Ata (China)... and of course, in some of our famous mountains such as Großvenediger and Großglockner.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice.
