The Samaria Gorge is a popular hiking trail in Crete. This stunning spot, which is now a National Park, will take you from Xyloskalo up in the White Mountains, down to the Libyan Sea. On the way, the abandoned town of Samaria is a great spot to stop and rest. It has two churches and a fountain with fresh drinking water. After enjoying the stunning flora and fauna on the way, the hike ends at the beach, where the charming village of Agia Roumeli will greet you. This pretty spot can only be accessed by foot or by ferry. Furthermore, it offers a few places to eat and hotels, if you wish to stay.
