The Muztagh Ata (7,547 m) is located a few kilometers from the border between China and Pakistan within the Autonomous Region of Sinkiang. It is the second highest peak of the Kunlun mountain range, after the Kongur. Its rounded and always snow-capped summit promises the best mountaineering experience. The ascent to this peak usually begins in the Karakul Lake and its route is not technical although it requires some prior high mountain experience as well as a good physical condition and proper acclimatization. ##### I want you to have an unforgettable experience over this **25 day trip,** to reach the top of **Muztagh Ata**.

This magnificent mountain is located in the border between **China** and **Pakistan**. It is the second tallest peak in the **Kun-Lun** mountain range. And it ccupies the **47th place** on the tallest mountains around the world.

**Muztagh Ata** means **“the father of the ice mountains”**; perhaps because it stands amongst all the snowcapped peaks as a guardian of this land. Or perhaps because its summit is always covered in snow. So one of the advantages is that **you can descend from the top skiing.**

We’ll spend a few nights in **Karakul** and **Subash** for **acclimatization**. Then, after approximately **4 hours** we’ll reach **Base Camp at 4,450 meters**. We normally make **3 camps**, the last one being at **6,850 meters**.

Due to the absence of technical ascents, **Muztagh Ata** it is an excellent option for those wishing to gain experience. Thus, is perfect for those who want to climb other **Himalayan mountains** later on. However, even if it’s not a technical ascent, it is still a challenging climb. So it is important that you have the physical condition needed to reach the summit.

Depending on your previous knowledge and skills, **you can chose to climb them with skis or snowshoes**. I’ll gladly help you choose the best option.

And most importantly, on top of giving you advice on the equipment, **I’ll make sure you are safe along the way**.

Also, once we arrive to Beijing, we can explore places like **the Great Wall, the Ming Tombs, the Forbidden City and Tiannamen Square.**

Spain-Beijing

Arrival to Beijing. Then we’ll depart to Kasghar arriving around 15:25, where our team will pick you up and take you to your hotel.

Beijing-Kashgar

You get the morning free to rest and do the last shopping and preparation. Also you’ll get to explore Subash. Later during the day, we’ll take the dazzling highway of Karakorum, through a narrow mountain pass that is absolutely breathtaking. Additionally, you’ll get to see the magnificent River Guez. We’ll then climb slowly to the lake Karakul at 3,900 meters. Then, we’ll continue the trip towards Subash, where we’ll stay for the night.

Kasghar-Subash

We’ll spend the day in Subash to acclimate, trekking around the area.

Subash

After breakfast we’ll begin today’s adventure. Camels will be waiting for us in Subash to take our cargo. We’ll equip the caravan and begin our journey through fascinating hills towards Base Camp. There, you’ll find electricity to charge your devices, and a full pension stay, including european and chinese style food and showers. You’ll also find phones, so you can make phone calls without any problems.

Subash-Base Camp 

Normally there are 3 camps to reach summit: Camp 1 is at 5,450 meters, camp 2 is at 6,200 meters, camp 3 is at 6,850 meters from where we’ll head to the top.

Mountain acclimatization

Today we’ll pack up and begin our descent to Subahs, where vehicles we’ll take us to Kasghar. Then, we’ll head to our hotel.

Subash-Karakul Lake-Kasghar

After a delicious breakfast we’ll head to the airport to take a flight back to Beijing. There, we will spend the night at a hotel. It will be the departure day for those who don’t wish to stay in Beijing.

Kasghar-Beijing

You’ll get these days to explore Beijing on your own or with the group.

25-day Muztagh Ata (7546m) expedition

The **Muztagh Ata peak**, in the frontier with China and Pakistan, is the most popular mountain with 7546 meters to climb. Although you could do it by steep walking, I think that the climbing option is more exciting.

Moreover, it is especially perfect **for those who want little bit of challenge** in **their lives**. This is the mountain in which we get ready before going to the Everest.

The Muztagh Ata peak is so popular among tourists mainly because the route **is completely covered with snow**. So you may go up and down with nothing more than skis. In addition, it is close to **Subashi**, near the ancient Silk Road. So you can go there by car and continue by foot. There is no need of knowledge of technical climbing. While the conditions may be harsh because of the cold, it´s a good way to practice for even greater challenges.

If you want to get ready for the first of many adventures, please consider this 25-day trip. The best moment to do it is **between June and September**.

If you want to go to the top, having some prior experience in high altitude will be a plus. Keep in mind that the way to the top is rather easy for rookies but the deep snow and **strong winds over 7000 meters** can turn it into a more demanding one. However, this should not be a problem if you follow my instructions.

There is also **a second route** that leads us to the southern slope of the western side of the Muztagh Ata Mountain. It´s not so popular but it´s longer and less dangerous. **It will take you to summit of Muztagh Ata by any of those routes**, and with nothing more than skis and snowshoes.

From the arrival in Bishkek with some time to rest, to Manas International airport, 25 km of travel. In the afternoon we transfer to Naryn city, the first stop in our journey. We will be sleeping in a guest house. All three meals included.

To Naryn City

We leave there from Naryn to Torugart crossing the Kyrgyzstan-China border and further to Kashgar, the second stop. The accommodation will be in a hotel. All three meals included.

Transfer to Kashgar

Transfer from Kashgar to Subashi village, the travel will take 4 to 5 hours (200 km in a bus).  
We will cross the Karakorum motorway through a narrow gorge of the River Gez. The altitude at that time will be about 3900 m by the shores of Karakorum lake. We will be about 196 km from Kashgar.  
You will have the opportunity to see horses, yaks and camels graze in the rich pastures.  
From now on the adventure begins. We are going to sleep in yurts or tents.  
All three meals included.

Last travel

We will trek from Subsahi to the Base camp at Muztagh Ata peak.  
At the morning we are going to drive 10km to Subashi to meet the camels that will take our equipment to base camp. With the camels carrying the equipment, we are going to trek over a plateau and then climb through the barren hills to the camp, which is approximately a 4 hour walk.  
Drifts of alpine flowers cover the slopes as we approach our destination and the local marmots can often be heard calling out a welcome. Camping overnight. All three meals included.

Trekking Time

Climbing the Muztagh Ata peak. The beginning of the ascent with more than 7000 meters high. Climbing and acclimatization in case of bad weather. Period for climbing to Muztag-Ata, which requires building and supplying three high camps. Meals are provided only at the base camp, however if climbers choose to go further they will need to bring their own food.

Climbing activity

We are going to start the trekking from the Base camp to Subashi. Then will transfer to Kashgar and starting the return journey.

In the morning we will go down to Subashi, again our gear will be taken by the camels. At Subashim, our transport to Kashgar will be already waiting and we will arrive there in early evening. We are going back to civilization, so the accommodation will be in a Hotel. All three meals included.

After a successful climbing...

For the last day of the expedition, will be doing a City tour in Kashgar. Our tour includes the tombs of Abakh Hoja Tomb, the well-known Kashgar Bazaar, the famous Mosque and the most unique old town with typical Uyghur styled homes. We will visit various shopping alleys full of noodle shops, bakeries, tea shops, blacksmiths and carpenters. Then we will get back to the hotel. All three meals included.

Kashgar City Tour

Transfer from Kashgar to Torugart pass, further to Naryn, by Bus. After a breakfast, we will drive to the Torugart Pass crossing the China-Kyrgyzstan border. We will transfer to Naryn and sleep in a guest house or yurt as accommodation. All three meals included.

Transfer to Naryn

Transfer from Naryn to Bishkek. The accommodation will be in a hotel. All three meals included.

Transfer to Bishkek
