Nigardsbreen is the most accessible route of the Jostedalsbreen glacier; a glacier that covers 487 square kilometers and is the largest in continental Europe. It is located in the Jostedalsbreen National Park and the views it offers of mountains, fjords, glaciers and snow are mesmerizing.

This trip is ideal for people looking for an introductory course or people with limited days of vacation. You’ll learn everything there is to know about hiking the breathtaking blue ice. There are also options to snow hike on Tuftebreen or Jostedalsbreen, two other stunning options in Norway.

We recommend this trip to participants in a good physical condition and with some experience in mountain hiking. Also, participants need to be, at least, 17 years old.

Mountain Guide

Based in Western Norway, near the Sognefjord, our guiding agency has been offering its services since 1987. We are located in the Jostedalen Valley from where we have quick and easy access to the popular Nigardsbreen, an arm of the large Jostedalsbreen glacier.

Originally established by certified guides Steinar Bruheim, Thore Stensberg, Heidi Zimmermann and Arve Tvedt, the agency's staff now includes up to 30 guides in the high season, both in Norway and internationally, all with solid knowledge and experience.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge.
