Description

Cross the jawdropping icefields of the classic Wapta route during this 3-day guided journey!

During this trip, we will spend three days exploring some of the most stunning landscapes in all of Western Canada as we explore the Wapta icefield, located in the area around Banff National Park, Yoho National Park, and the Continental Divide. The landscape is stark and stunning, with a rugged maze of crevasses crossing the rocky icefield.  You will feel miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and hopefully come away with a new appreciation for the immensity and solitude of remote alpine landscapes.

Our journey will begin with the trek up to Bow Hut, run by the Alpine Club of Canada.  There, we will have an introductory meeting that will give you the chance to familiarize yourself with the equipment we will be using.  We will also enjoy a delicious, three-course dinner.  The following day, we will strap on our crampons and explore the glacier on foot.  As we walk, you will learn about the glacier while you practice your new alpine skills.  The third day, we have the option to either ascend a nearby mountain or complete a traverse to Peyto Hut.

While some equipment such as crampons, ice axes, harnesses, and rope will be provided, you will need to bring certain gear such as warm clothing, mountaineering boots, and a 40L backback.  A complete packing list will be provided.  The price includes half board, so you will need to bring your own lunch and water.

Book now and it will be a memorable and rewarding experience exploring a breathtaking alpine landscape while learning skills for all your future mountaineering and ice trekking adventures!

Based in Canmore, Alberta, I am an IFMGA- and ACMG-certified mountain guide. I also serve in the Canadian Armed Forces and am a founding partner of the Outward Bound Veterans Program.

My mission is for you to learn the skills to be competent and independent in the backcountry. I will break down complex skill sets into individual building blocks for you to learn progressively and confidently. After learning the skills, you will get to practice them in the backcountry with my guidance or that of one of the ACMG-certified guides in my team.

I recommend booking with Brent no matter what level of climber you are. He is able to cater the day to exactly what you'll be looking for. In my experience, making the transition to outdoor climbing can be intimidating for a number of reasons. But with the way these routes are bolted, there's a level of comfort not typically found outdoors. Again, I recommend this to anyone at any level. It can be as challenging or as easy of a day as you want it to be.

Brent single-handedly convinced us that we need to return to Canmore. He was highly meticulous and professional, which everyone who is climbing should appreciate in a guide. Thanks Brent! You made our trip amazing.

Admin was efficient for paying Communications were hit and miss. Took too long to answer questions about the day / route etc. We were beginners and the guide chose a route that was too challenging. One member of group dropped out the day before. The requested refund never even got a reply about. Let alone confirmation

Brent is an excellent guide. He was stoked to be able to share his mountain environment with others. Unfortunately he had damaged his knee so arranged for another local guide to take me out for the day. Ethan was also exceptional. Brent got in contact to ensure my day was tailored to me my experience and to ensure I got the most out of the day. I was without a car so Brent picked me up and dropped me off I had a great morning in the mountains learning new techniques for multi pitch routes and then spent the afternoon working on my trad gear placement and anchor building. Excellent instruction on gear placement and rating it. We fitted so much into the day. But always with an inclusive teaching style. I can’t recommend them enough. Both guides passionately sharing their knowledge and teaching skills, keen for their clients to learn to be more independent safer and capable in the mountains.
