Description

If you want to get into the world of winter mountaineering, this course is the perfect option for you. We will spend three winter days on Matterhorn Peak, where you will train in the different aspects of mountaineering while attempting the summit of this imposing mountain.

The 3-day course is aimed at people who have some hiking experience and wish to move on to steeper and more challenging terrain such as gullies, headwalls and rocky ridges.

Matterhorn Peak (3,744m) is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, in California. It offers a huge and amazing alpine climbing training ground to take your first mountaineering steps.

We will use snowshoes to get to Horse Creek Canyon, where we will teach the basics of snow camping. In our climb of Matterhorn Peak, you will learn snow climbing, ice axe skills, crampon use, route-finding and avalanche awareness.

The Sierra Nevada range runs for about 400 miles along the eastern edge of California. Matterhorn is the highest mountain in the Sawtooth Ridge, and the northernmost 12,000-ft (3,70 m) of the range.

You will learn proper winter climbing techniques in a beautiful spot: untrammelled lands, fresh air and breathtaking scenery is guaranteed.

So, if you want to get started in winter mountaineering, please contact me! You will learn the basic skills in the wonderful landscapes of Eastern Sierra Nevada!

I really loved it. Intro to rock climbing was an amazing experience. Explore-share team were so helpful in the process. The trip that I chose in the first place was not available and they managed to find alternatives and offer me the best possible solution in that situation. In the end I had a wonderful day and could not be happier!

Guide cancelled within 48 hrs and I was unable to find someone else and so far I’ve not been refunded. Put a small dent in my otherwise great trip to Revelstoke.

It would have been helpful to know it was suppose to be a Matterhorn prep course. The goals of the group were a little different.

I was very glad to have the Back country ski tour in Montata by following reasons. 1. I had quick replies from my coordinator and guide whenever I asked something; 2. My guide was cool. 3. The tour was well-planned and appropriate duration. 4. Snow was in a good condition. Thank you!!
