Planning on undertaking your first high altitude expedition in the near future? If the answer is yes, then be sure to enroll in our 4-day advanced winter mountaineering course on Mt Shasta!
Situated in the southern Cascade Range of northern California, winter climbs of this 14,179 foot high peak are a good way to experience some of the same weather and climbing conditions that you will find on high altitude climbs. You’ll also learn the necessary skills to make it through the elements and to the summit.
Over the course of our time together, we will review some basic winter mountaineering skills before moving on to tougher techniques. All of these will come in handy on the slopes of Denali, the Himalayas or in the Andes!
As we learn, we will ascend Mt Shasta via either Casaval Ridge or Sargent’s Ridge, establishing various camps as we go.
Participants should already have a good grasp of ice ax arrest and crampon techniques (but we’ll briefly review these anyways) before we move on to more advanced skills training.
Expect to go over advanced route finding, winter anchor systems, avalanche awareness skills, camp selection and self-rescue techniques, among many others.
Once we get to the summit, braving the elements, enjoy the astounding views and just imagine what other incredible sights await from the top of the world’s highest mountains.
So what are you waiting for? Book now for this informative and inspirational 4-day advanced winter mountaineering course on Mt Shasta!
If you like the look of this trip, but just want to climb Mt Shasta in the winter, then we think you will also enjoy our 3-day winter ascent of the peak via Casaval Ridge!
