Description

If you are up for the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and you are looking for a fast ascent, then join us on this 5-day Marangu route ascent to the summit of Africa’s highest peak!

Although it is a fast ascent, this route perhaps is the easiest and most comfortable route to reach the top of Kilimanjaro or Uhuru Peak, one of the world’s Seven Summits. The route is well-developed and the climb is constant and moderate.

Our team of experienced and certified local guides will make sure you enjoy an unforgettable and safe experience.  The Marangu route is the oldest established route and it approaches the summit from the southeast. It follows the same trail for the ascent and descent, meaning that it somehow less scenic compared to other routes.

Along this route, you will be staying in huts with dormitory style accommodation, the Mandara, Kibo and Horombo huts. But even though you will have your own matress in every hut, you will still need a sleeping bag. The Marangu route is also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, because you can find Coke in every hut on the way up.

During these days, you will be served delicious food and clean water, obtained and filtered from springs available on Mount Kilimanjaro. This program includes a 5-day climb and two nights at a hotel.

We usually take small groups on our expeditions, for these allow our guides to offer a personalized experience and to quickly solve any issue that may arise. Your group will consist of only the people you chose to travel with and our mountain crew and porters.

This 5-day Kilimanjaro ascent is an amazing way to reach the roof of Africa. So, if you are in for this adventure, gust contact us, book your trip and we will start planning this unforgettable trip together.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, our professional driver will take you to Moshi town, where you will spend the remaining day. We will also give you a short briefing about your upcoming trek. You may spend your day at the Hotel or hang around Moshi (taxi ride may be necessary).

Day 2: Mandara Hut

After breakfast, we will make a short journey from your hotel in Moshi to the National Park gate, for the necessary formalities at the entrance. We start the climb through a fascinating tropical rainforest. We reach the first hut at Mandara for dinner and overnight stay. An alternative is to simply rest and relax enjoying the view of the beautiful forest around the camp.
Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700 m): 5-6 hours hiking.

Day 3: Horrombo Hut

Today the first part of the hike is a steep ascent through a forest, but the path soon opens out into moorland and, in clear weather, there are great views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. We arrive at Horombo Hut mid-afternoon, where you can relax and enjoy the stunning scenery around the camp.
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720 m): 4-6 hours walking.

Day 4: Kibo Hut

Today we climb very gradually towards the lunar desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. These 6-7 hours trek will be carried at a slow pace until we reach Kibo Hut (4,700m), where we will spend the night in a comfortable hut. Bear in mind there is no running water at Kibo Hut. The remainder of the day is spent relaxing and preparing for the final ascent before a very early night.
Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700 m.); 4-6 hours walking.

Day 5: Kibo Hut - Kilimanjaro summit - Horrombo Hut

We wake up before midnight in darkness. We begin a steep climb over loose volcanic scree. Some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to the rim of the main crater, Gillman’s (5,685 m). We will rest there for few minutes to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling good can continue slowly to make the three hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After a few minutes to appreciate your accomplishment we descend fast to Kiko Hut, and we stop at Kibo Hut for some refreshment, continuing our descent until we reach Horombo Hut.
Kibo Hut to Kilimanjaro ummit to Horombo Hut (3,720 m): 13-15 hours trekking time.

Day 6: Horombo Hut - Marangu National Park - Mountain resort

Today we will descend past Mandara hut to Marangu National Park, successful climbers will receive their summit certificates. From here you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Mountain Resort for dinner and overnight.
Horombo hut to Marangu Gate. (6-7 hours walking).

Day 7: Departure Day

After saying bye to our team in operation then  you need a private departure transfer, which is included, from Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight, unless you want to join us on another safari or any other option.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
