6-day snowshoe hike in the High Tauern

Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Central Eastern Alps in Austria on a six-day snowshoe hike around Matrei in Osttirol, in the heart of the High Tauern mountain range, where you can find the highest peaks east of the Brenner Pass. Join me around the valleys of Virgen, Prägraten and Kals while learning about snow and avalanches.

For this six-day trip, we will meet the first day to have a briefing talk, hand in your equipment and check it before the adventure. We will carry out great snowshoeing excursions around Matrei for the following five days. This trip is recommended for people in good physical shape. The best period to come to this region is during the month of January.

High Tauern is considered the largest winter hiking territory in the eastern Alps. Surrounded by breathtaking forests and white wilderness, it’s the ideal place to enjoy winter sports in a relaxing environment. One of the places we will visit is The Gschlöss, a heavenly valley under the imposing Venediger glacier.
