Climb Austria’s highest peak on a focused two-day guided ascent of Grossglockner (3,798 m). This compact itinerary leads you from green valley meadows up onto the vast Pasterze Glacier, offering a complete taste of high-alpine terrain and spectacular panoramas.
The route blends glacier travel with exposed rock and ice sections, and includes stops at Stüdlhütte and Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte for rest and views. Expect varied terrain and changing conditions as you gain altitude—every stage brings a different landscape and new perspectives of the Eastern Alps.
The climb includes technical passages up to about UIAA grade II and glacier crossings, so a minimum of mountaineering experience is required. You’ll be accompanied throughout by IFMGA-certified guides who manage rope systems, fixed anchors when needed, and all safety procedures to keep the group secure.
We take care of the practical details: refuge bookings and, if required, equipment rental for crampons, harnesses and ice axes. If you’re ready for a short but full-on alpine challenge, join Adventure Dreamers for a carefully guided, unforgettable ascent of Grossglockner.
Your climb to Grossglockner begins at Lucknerhaus, where the route blends pristine nature with classic alpine charm. You can meet your guide either at Lucknerhaus or directly at the Stüdlhütte; the trail between the two is straightforward and ideal for walking at your own pace while enjoying the scenery. To make the approach easier you may bring an e-bike for the road to Lucknerhütte or use the backpack transport via the small cable car up to Stüdlhütte, arriving rested and ready for the next stage.
Distance: ~8 km. Elevation gain: ~1,500 m.
After an equipment check, the day starts with a crossing of the Pasterze Glacier, a vast icy landscape shaped over millennia. From the glacier the route follows the ridge to the summit — about 1.5–2 hours of exposed, technical terrain (up to UIAA grade II). Our IFMGA-certified guides manage fixed anchors and belay points as needed, providing rope protection and continuous support for safety on ascent and descent. After summiting Austria’s highest peak you descend the same route back toward Lucknerhaus, with a restorative stop at Stüdlhütte for a meal.
Distance: ~10 km. Elevation: +250 m / −1,900 m.
