Washington state's fourth highest volcanic peak towers 10,525 feet above its pristine alpine surroundings.
Glacier Peak stands alone in a half-million acre wilderness area and heading up to its summit makes for an incredible backcountry adventure!
Starting from Sedro Woolley, we will go over the trip itinerary before making the two hour drive to the North Fork of Sauk River trailhead at 2,300 feet.
From here, we begin hiking to our first camp, passing through a 700-year-old western red cedar forest and enjoying fantastic views of Sloan Peak, the Monte-Cristo area and the Dakobed Range.
The following day, we continue our approach toward the mountain.
The day includes some challenging hiking, traversing up above the White River, before descending into Glacier Peak Meadow and heading back up near the foot of Suiattle Glacier.
The following day is summit day! After getting a pre-dawn alpine start, we will ascend through the moderate snow fields around Disappointment Peak to access the Cool Glacier.
We will then proceed to climb the Cool Glacier, traversing a snow and rock arête, before reaching the icy summit of Glacier Peak. After enjoying the phenomenal views of the surroundings, we will hike back down to our second camp and relax for the rest of the afternoon.
The following day, we will wake up early again, pack up camp and hike back to the trailhead.
So what are you waiting for? Book now for this incredible backcountry experience as we climb to the top of Glacier Peak in the Cascade Range!
If you like the look of this trip then we think you may also enjoy our 3-day ascent of Eldorado Peak via Inspiration Glacier, also in the Cascade Range!
