Day hike on the Vincente Flat Trail in Big Sur, CA

Situated at the southern tip of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, the Vincente Flat Trail (also known as the Vicente Flat Trail) is an all day workout with plenty of great views!

Right from the get-go the trail starts with a steep uphill that yields immediate views out over the Pacific Ocean. Some of the best ocean views in the entire Big Sur come from this section of the trail.

The trail continues winding through scrublands and grassier parts until we reach a bend. From here, we follow the lip of several canyons and continue to enjoy stunning views out over Cone Peak.

We continue approaching Cone Peak until we begin winding down the side of the canyon toward the Vicente Flats.

The entire way is tough but stunningly scenic. We won’t find many trails in California that yield as many diverse views and take us through such stunning scenery.

Expect to spend the entire day out on the trail. The round trip hike is 16 kilometers and includes about a 550-meters elevation gain. However, the views (no, I can’t stress this part enough) are well-worth the efforts it takes to get them!
