Description

Would you like to join an ice climbing course in the Dolomites? Then come with me on this intensive 6-day program and learn everything you need to know to enjoy unique winter ice climbing adventures.

On this program, we will set off from Füssen, Allgäuand head to the Dolomites to enjoy a 6-day course where you will learn skills and techniques that you will then put to practice. You can find a detailed tentative program below, which may vary depending on weather conditions. On the last day of our program, we will climb a beautiful waterfall!

Keep in mind that you will need a very good fitness level and prior rock climbing experience, including lead climbing and belaying to join this course. Of course, I will be there to teach you the ice-climbing skills you need, to help and to guide you.

Price details

PRICE INCLUDES: 5 days of intensive ice climbing, planning and guiding by an IFMGA/UIAGM qualified guide/ aspirant,

avalanche safety equipment,

modern & high-level ice climbing equipment (excluding clothing and shoes), video analysis, transportation during the activity. DOES NOT INCLUDE: flights/ traveling costs to Füssen,

personal insurance,

mountaineering shoes rental (in case needed),

overnights in a mountain hut or in the valley (1/2 pension 55- 65€ per night for a participant sharing a double bedroom).

*group size: min/max 4 participants.


Itinerary

Day 1: Füssen (Allgäu)

Meeting point at 5 pm in the hotel in Füssen (Allgäu). Introduction talk, equipment handover, eventually introduction to various knots.

Day 2: First ice climbing day

Depending on condition in the Tannheimertal or on our way to the Hotel in South Tirol (Italy). Introduction to using ice axes and crampons in easy terrain.

Day 3:  Ice protection & technique improvement.

The entire day will be dedicated to learning how to lead climb on ice: placing and cleaning of ice screws, preparation of gear, building belay stances in ice.  Additionally working on climbing techniques – how to climb efficiently and economical, how to pass an ice bulge and how to traverse and to move fast on ice just to name a few examples. Video analysis.

Day 4: Lead climbing in ice.

At first, a pseudo lead climb while placing ice screws and later on the option to lead the same icefall, while independently placing screws. Video analysis.

Day 5: Preparation day for multi-pitch climbing

How to build a stance and rope handling on a multi-pitch climb in ice.

Day 6: Multi-pitch climb

Under the supervision of the guide, you are going to climb a long waterfall while switching leads. This is one of the most significant days of the course & for most of the participants an absolute highlight! In the afternoon, we will drive back to Füssen and end the activity.

I am in the mountains all year-round, either guiding a trip or exploring on my own. Mountain guiding is not only my profession and passion but also my inner calling. I am a qualified IFMGA mountain and ski guide.
