GR R2 Hike across Réunion Island (France) from Saint Denis to Saint Philippe, 15 days

Join us as we take you on one of the most popular hikes on Réunion Island, from Saint Denis to Saint Philippe! This GR R2 hike is extraordinary as during these 15 days, you’ll cover the whole island from the North to the South, leaving no area untouched!

We will begin from the administrative capital of Saint-Denis and hike through the Natural Reserve of Roche Ecrite. The trek takes us through the spectacular areas of Bellepierre, Aurere, Cayenne, and Marla among many others. We further cross the incredible Le Col de Taïbit pass and traverse the lush Mare Longue forest to enjoy incredible vistas.

The trail leads to a path overlooking the imposing Mafate, further taking us through the beautiful valley of Mafate. You will navigate a varied landscape of lush valleys and towering cliffs on this scenic hike. Also, get ready to explore the unique plant life of Réunion Island.

Further, we will hike the summit of Piton des Neiges, the highest peak in the Indian Ocean, and head down to the Plaine des Cafres. And the highlight is the trek to Piton de la Fournaise, an active volcano on the island. As we will hike towards the main crater of Dolomieu, you will be stunned to see the smoke and red streaks of lava coming out of it!

Covering numerous incredible spots and taking back a bunch of memories, we will reach Saint Philippe by the fifteenth day to end this unbelievable trip!
