The route we will follow is quite simple, as it won’t be a steep trek, nor too demanding. Due to breathtaking views it offers and the simplicity of the route, it welcomes different type of hikers, including beginners. Thus, we’ll get to truly appreciate the hypnotizing sceneries that will surround us, such as the brimming Belbín sheepfolds, which shepherds still use. Here, we’ll encounter welcoming locals, that will share with us their traditional ways, including the elaboration of artisanal cheeses, praised all over Europe.
And there isn’t a better scenario for this marvelous adventure than the Picos de Europa, a national park that extends for more than 67,455 hectares. It lies in the Cantabric mountain range, comprising the provinces of Asturias, León and Cantabria.
Then, once we reach the Lakes of Covadonga, you’ll understand why it is known as one of Europe’s most incredible places. It is formed by two smaller lakes, Enol and Ercina, both originated in a glacier. The third lake, Bricial, has only water during the defrost season.
If you wish to learn about the natural and cultural features of this paradise in Spain, don’t hesitate and send me a request. It would be my pleasure to be your guide on this fantastic program to the Lakes of Covadonga in the Picos de Europa National Park.
Would you like to keep exploring Spain? I also guide this 2-day Trek in the Sierra de Cuera with overnight in an authentic “Shepherd’s hut”.
