After meeting, we’ll drive on an air-conditioned minivan towards Montserrat, an enchanting town very close to Barcelona. It is famous for being the home of a multi-peaked range. Thus, its name comes from the Catalan and it means sawed mountain. It’s fame also comes from hosting the Benedictine abbey and the Black madonna: La Morenata.
Our adventure begins exploring the Benedictine abbey and learning about its intriguing history. Upon completion, we’ll get ready for our hiking trip following a dazzling path across the rocky formations of the peak. We’ll pass by incredible natural viewpoints, that offer the most hypnotizing views of the enchanting forests around and over the abbey. Then, we’ll continue until we reach the highest point of the peak. So we’ll enjoy an unrivaled 360 degrees view over the whole range. It is so amazing, that in clear days we can see all the way to the Pyrenees and the island of Mallorca.
Then, we’ll begin descending on a shady trail that crosses forests and needle formations until we arrive back at the Abbey. There, if visiting Monday to Friday, we’ll get the opportunity to hear the local boy’s choir singing the Escolania de Montserrat.
Don’t miss out on any of the fun. Request to book this trip and live a marvelous experience in Montserrat.
I also guide this hike in the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park and visit Besalú, a day trip from Barcelona, if you want to keep exploring the area.
