Description

Located at the heart of the Gruyère region, the small mountain village of Charmey is home to ancient alpine traditions and great hiking possibilities, surrounded by a beautiful scenery of lush meadows.

This 1-day family-friendly program takes you to discover this unique alpine heritage, by experimentation.  You will be able to learn about cheese making, following the milk process, and trying to make it yourself, tasting and sharing the final product.

We will hike for about 3.5 kilometers, with an altitude change of 213 meters, but it is an easy hike, so everyone is welcome and it is a great activity for families with kids.

We will also climb the mountain pastures to pick up the plants that grow around the cottage and learn about their different uses. During this fun day, you will also be the craftsman of your own meal, preparing the traditional soup du chalet at the couldron. It will be a day rich in unique experiences!

Whatever the time of the year you come, you’re guaranteed to have an experience that will delight all your senses, learning about the shepherds way of life, with customs that survive to this very day.

So, if you have ever wondered what magic turns milk into cheese, why do the Armaillis (shepherd of the Graubünden region) eat the soup du chalet, or what the Bounet Rodzo is, you will find the answer during this day. You will also learn how to make an alpine horn and what the tavillion is. It will be an unforgettable day, devoted to discovering a rich alpine heritage through experience.

Don’t hesitate to send me a request if you’d like to join me on this great program around Charmey. Just book your trip and get ready for a wonderful experience.
