The glory of ice climbing goes beyond the actual climbing. Instead, it is the feeling you experience when dangling from the gorgeous, glacial sheets of frozen water that create an ice fall, like the one found in the Mlacca gorge. Despite being at most 40 metres high, you somehow feel as if you are at least 4,000 metres up.
There is a sense of adventure, risk and danger in ice climbing that few, if any, other winter activities can truly capture. That risk is not solely a feeling however. It is a reality because ice climbing can be dangerous. You are climbing a frozen waterfall with crampons and an ice axe after all. That is why I believe it is essential that anybody who wishes to enjoy this activity learns the basics on how to enjoy it properly and safely. And that is exactly what I will teach you during this 1 day ice climbing course that is designed for beginners.
The Mlacca gorge features a gorgeous ice fall that is 200 metres long and 45 metres high. Beyond the gorge itself, you can also take some time to appreciate the beauty of the Triglav national park, where the gorge is located.
The trip will begin in Mojstrana, and from there we will make our way to the Mlacca Gorge. The course will last the day. But I can add on an additional day for those looking to take what they have learned and apply it to more challenging ice climbs in the area.
If you have always wanted to learn how to ice climb, this beginners course is for you. Also, the beauty of the Mlacca gorge will stay with you long after you leave. So send me a request, and let me guide you. I know you will have a great time.
I can also take you on another Slovenian ice climbing adventure at Kranjska Gora.

Mountain Guide
I was born in Ljubljana in 1988 and began climbing during high school. In 2010, I became a climbing instructor, after years of spending my free time on the walls of the Alps, both in Slovenia and abroad. I studied Geography at university, but mountaineering, climbing and now mountain guiding have always been my main occupation. I've received multiple awards, including the Piolet D'Or. I'm a fully certified IFMGA guide.

Luka is a gem and we are beyond thankful for the time we were able to spend under his guidance!
This was my first time using explore share, and it is a brilliant idea that works exactly as intended. I was able to find exactly what I wanted even in the off season with minimal effort. Luka, my guide, was very knowledgeable about Slovenia, and about climbing. He was very friendly, patient, and made the experience more enjoyable. I learned a lot about climbing thanks to his advice, and feel as though I will be able to progress more thanks to this.

I had a really great time with Luka! The crag he chose was well-suited to my ability and took the weather into account, and I felt really safe and secure being belayed by him. I was able to get some helpful advice on my technique and ended the day feeling like I had really achieved something. Thanks Luka!

Luka was an amazing guide! He truly went above and beyond on this trip. One example: he had a significant personal event occur right before I arrived, but made sure he was available to guide me anyway. Second, one of my climbing days was far too rainy and cold sadly to continue to be alpine, so he drove with me another two hours to a site that was enjoyable and much warmer. As well I found him to be a kind coach and willing to let me try hard on routes. Looking forward to another climb with him.

Luka was an amazing guide. He was able to both challenge our son, who is an experienced rock climber, but also give my spouse and I the encouragement we needed to have a great time for our first day of outdoor climbing. I highly recommend him!
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
