Description

Definitely one of the most picturesque peaks in the stunning Cascades mountain range in Oregon, Mount Hood (3,429m) is a fantastic and easy mountain to climb. Hence making this 2-day ascent a very accessible climbing adventure. However, it is important that participants on this trip be in excellent physical condition.

This 2-day climbing trip is a combination of learning and fun. For the first half of the trip, we will focus on teaching you various climbing techniques that will prove useful not just on the climb of Mount Hood, but also for future climbs as well.

What you will learn:

– Management of personal layers and equipment systems while outdoors in an alpine environment – Gear packing and equipment choices – Putting your skills into practice – Steep snow climbing techniques – How to tackle the rigors of a 4,500ft of ascent and descent

You will also develop new relationships with like-minded people and learn something new about yourself and your ability to overcome adversity.

The second half of the trip will revolve around the climbing of Mount Hood. The most popular route to the summit is the Southside route, which we will be taking. This route is very scenic and even features some variations, including Old Chute and the Pearly Gates. The total time for the ascent and descent will take approximately 8 to 10 hours. And while the chances of reaching the summit are usually very good, there is always the possibility that we will not be able to as a result of inclement weather. However, we will do our best to get you there safely, so you can enjoy the spectacular views!

Are you looking for an accessible climbing adventure on one of the most beautiful peaks in the United States? If so, ascending Mount Hood on this 2-day expedition will most certainly satisfy you. So send us a request and join us for a trip that will be exciting, as well as educational. Thus ensuring you have many more great climbs in the future.

Itinerary

Day 1: Meeting, gear check and practice

You will meet your guide at the Timberline Lodge, and begin by checking gear and fitting crampons. Outside, on our practice snow slopes we’ll learn footwork, crampon and ice axe technique, rope-systems, and self-arrest.

Day 2: Summit Day

We will start the summit day with an alpine start around midnight when you meet your guide and snowcat for transportation up to 7,000 feet. We will climb by headlamp and hopefully reach the upper-mountain by sunrise, then make the summit push in the early morning light. Conditions, weather, and team dynamics will dictate outcomes, but the goal is to be back to base by the early afternoon, which will allow you to be back in Portland by dinner time.

Guide cancelled within 48 hrs and I was unable to find someone else and so far I’ve not been refunded. Put a small dent in my otherwise great trip to Revelstoke.

Guide was very experienced and very patient with us. We learned alot and he tried to fit in all the knowledge he could in one day, super awesome. A little tough going back and forth to get the trip set up hard to tell if the site is sketchy until you see reviews but all worked out. Ended up with an awesome day with an awesome guide. Overall pretty satisfied and thankful!
