Enjoy the fresh and deep snow in Niseko on this full-day skiing program!
Located in Hokkaido, the village of Niseko is one of the best and most popular spots to enjoy off-piste skiing in Japan. It has several options available for participants with an intermediate to advanced level of experience.
Our destination will be chosen according to the weather and snow activity as well as your skiing level. Keep in mind that we can also organize a program in other areas in Hokkaido.
When there is more than one person, the whole group adapts to the lowest level or we can ski together in the morning and split up after lunch break.
We will start by ascending with a chairlift in the resort and enjoy sliding out of the gates, in the non patrolled area, during the morning and the afternoon. At the end of the day, we will drive you back to your accommodation.
Apart from skiing in the fantastic terrain of Niseko, this program is a great introduction to off-piste skiing in Japan. So, if you are getting started with this activity, you can’t miss this opportunity.
Although no touring experience is required for this trip, take into account that some routes may demand a short hike (about 15 minutes).
As for the equipment, don’t forget to bring your AVI gear (beacon shovel and probe). If you don’t have one, you can rent it in Niseko.
So, does this off-piste skiing trip sound like something for you? Get in touch with me by sending your request to book this program. We can adapt it to suit your preferences!

Can I join an Open Group ?
Yes, we offer both options: Open Groups & Private Groups. We have scheduled group dates for skiers and riders to join and explore the best of Niseko Gates side-country. These groups are minimum 3 people and maximum 6 people.
Do we use the lifts from the resort to go uphill or will we skin uphill (ski touring)?
We will use the resort ski lift. You'll need an All Mountain ski pass for yourself. To access to the best side-country of Niseko and to find the deepest powder, we might have to do short hikes (about 20 minutes) from the top of the lifts.
Group size? Are all the Open Group Dates confirmed or is there a minimum of skiers required?
We require a minimum of 3 participants to confirm an Open Group. If only 1 or 2 people register for a specific date, we’ll still run the activity, but as a half-day session (3 hours) instead of a full-day session (6 hours). Alternatively, you may choose to cover the difference to meet the minimum requirement and enjoy the full-day experience.
Where and When do we meet the guide?
Meeting time: 9:00 a.m.
Meeting point: Hirafu Base (either the Hirafu Gondola Base or the Ace Quad Base) or Annupuri Base (at the Annupuri Gondola).
A few days before your skiing date, we’ll set up a friendly WhatsApp group with all participants and your guide. This way we can easily share updates and confirm the best meeting point based on the snow and weather conditions.
What is the skill level of the other participants of the Open Groups?
We organize groups for all skill levels and speak with each participant beforehand to understand their experience and match them accordingly. While we do our best to create well-balanced groups, please note that Open Groups ski at a pace that keeps everyone safe and allows all participants to enjoy the experience.
Are lift tickets included?
No, you need to buy an All Mountain lift ticket.
Is ski gear included?
No, ski gear is not included, but we'll be happy to help you rent it!
Is avalanche gear required?
Yes! It is mandatory that every has a skiing backpack with beacon, shovel and probe. If you don't have your own, we can help you rent it.
Do I need ski touring gear?
No ski touring gear is needed for this trip — just your regular alpine skiing equipment. We do recommend bringing (or renting) wider skis to make the most of the powder!
Can we change the date or cancel in case of bad weather?
Winter sports always depend on the weather. If all lifts are closed due to high winds and it’s not possible to run the trip as planned, your guide will first propose an alternative location. If changing the location isn’t possible, we’ll offer to reschedule your trip (if dates allow) or cancel and issue a refund. Please note that the decision to cancel the activity and offer a refund rests solely with the guide.
Can skiers and snowboarders be in the same group with the same guide?
Yes! All our groups are mixed. We make sure everyone in the group has a similar skill level, but both skiers and snowboarders can join together. In fact, your guide might be a skier or a snowboarder as well!
What are some recommended accommodations near our adventure location?

From a very young age I’ve had a strong connection with the mountains and nature. Although I grew up in the city, I used to travel to the countryside quite a lot. At the beginning, I approached the mountains in the summer time, hiking, trekking, sleeping in mountain huts, climbing and doing that kind of things. Later on, I started skiing and I just couldn't stopped: I became addicted to the snow!!
Back-country skiing started to grow on me when I was working in the Lake Tahoe ski area. I can still remember the feeling of the first few times I went to the backcountry on my skis, going up and down several peaks with no people around me except for my group of friends and away from the crowds of the resorts. It was fantastic!
After several year of backcountry skiing in Argentina (near Bariloche) and USA (Lake Tahoe), I made it to Niseko, Japan. I have been skiing, teaching, and guiding in Japan for the past 4 years. The snow here is unbelievable and the skiable terrain is huge and diverse. In the Niseko area you can find everything, from easy off-piste near the resort to several days backcountry skiing out there and lots of volcano skiing. Come on, just contact me and let’s go skiing!!

Weather was not great which is no ones fault - there was no visibility so we had to stay within the boundaries of the mountain. The guide was great as he was able to find fun places to ski despite the conditions that were sub optimal.

Felipe was perfect. He knows how to adapt efforts and difficulties according to his client level. We wanted 5 days off piste, we got it. Thank you so much.
