Punta Velluda or “Paso Superior” is the last camp that climbers use before attempting Mount Fitz Roy by its east face. The translation of its name would be “Hairy Peak“. It is due to the large amount of lichens (a kind of moss or algae) that we can find at the summit.
Today I bring a great proposal. A 2-day ascent with crampons up to the summit of Punta Velluda. On our way we’ll cross the frozen lagoon of Laguna de los Tres. It’ll be an incredible experience!
This trip is aimed at people with no prior mountaineering experience. However, a good fitness level will be necessary although it’ll be a gentle ascend. Keep in mind it’s usually done in one day so we’ll have plenty of time to enjoy it quietly.
We’ll set up camp on the base of the mountain and spend the night in double or triple tents. Therefore keep in mind that you must carry a backpack with your personal equipment (clothes, sleeping bag, insulation mat, etc.) and camping gear (tent, pots, heaters, etc.) It is also possible to hire porters.
So, if you find this winter adventure interesting please fill out the form and get in touch with me. It’ll be my pleasure to guide you in Punta Velluda!
