Camp in the beautiful mountains
Come join us on the adventure of a lifetime as we climb to the summit of Kilimanjaro via the Rongai route.
This route is definitely a challenge, but it’s a pretty good option for beginners. It also tends to be drier than the other routes.
Our adventure will begin on the north side of the mountain close to the Kenyan border. The start of the hike will take us through beautiful pine forests and we may even be able to catch some wildlife like monkeys.
The great sights will continue as we get closer to Kibo Volcano, we’ll see the landscape change and take in the different glaciers along the way. Then, we’ll be treated to the panoramic views from the summit which are simply amazing.
During the trip, we’ll camp in tents in the mountains. While the climbs are not extremely strenuous the altitude does make it quite difficult. For that reason, we’ll take sufficient rests at camp and we’ll do acclimatization hikes. It’s very important to take these seriously as they help increase your chances of reaching the summit.
This really is the experience of a lifetime. Get in touch today and you’ll be one step closer to achieving this massive accomplishment.
If you are interested in taking a different route to the summit be sure to check out our 8-day ascent via the Lemosho Route.

Meeting point Kilimanjaro Airport |
We’ll pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to your hotel. In the evening we’ll have a briefing about the climb and make sure you’re all ready.
We’ll travel by car to the Kilimanjaro National Park’s northern entrance, Nalemuru Gate (2,020 m). Once you have your permit and you’re registered, we’ll start trekking up to Simba Camp (2,625 m). This is an 8km trek which we’ll walk at a moderate pace (3- 4 hours walking). We’ll get to camp just in time for dinner which our mountain crew will prepare.
We’ll leave Simba Camp early to reach Kikilewa Camp (3,630 m). There you’ll be able to see Kibo Volcano. This is a 10 km trek across more challenging terrain, you’ll be hiking for around 5- 6 hours. So, we recommend lots of rest and an early night when we reach camp.
Our next destination will be Mawenzi Tarn Camp, at the foot of Mawenzi Volcano, Kilimanjaro’s second summit. This trek is around 6 km and will take us 4-5 hours. We’ll eat lunch at that camp and rest. From there we’ll take an acclimatization hike in the afternoon towards Mawenzi Volcano. We’ll end the day with dinner back at Mawenzi Tarn Camp.
It will take us around 5- 6 hours to hike the 9 km to School Hut Camp. In this section, you really get to see the landscape become rockier. We’ll rest as soon as we get to camp because we’ll be setting off again that same night.
We’ll set off close to midnight from School Hut Camp (4,715 m) to Kilimanjaro’s summit Uhuru peak (5,895 m). The hike itself is not too tricky but the altitude can pose a problem. We’ll spend some time enjoying our achievement at Uhuru Peak before descending to the nearest glacier. From there we’ll return to Kibo Camp where we can rest before continuing on to Horombo Camp (3,720 m). This is a big day. In total we’ll cover around 21 km in 12-14 hours.
After a nice warm breakfast, we’ll head to Marangu Gate (1,860 m) which is the Kilimanjaro National Park’s exit. This will take around 5-6 hours to cover 18 km. At the gate, we’ll present you with your certificates before heading to the hotel.
You can rest in the hotel before we drop you at the airport.
