Backcountry skiing program in New Zealand’s Southern Alps

This ski touring program in New Zealand’s Southern Alps is a great way to discover these beautiful mountains!

Ski giant glaciers and alpine peaks with our ski touring programs in Westland, Mt Cook and Aspiring National Parks. We will choose the destination depending on snow and weather conditions and you can choose the length of your trip.

We’ll also use the tour as an opportunity to improve your ski touring skills. You can tell us what you’d like to work on!

On day 1, we’ll meet at our office in Wanaka, where we’ll present you with an itinerary for our trip. You can also rent your equipment here if you need to.

Then, we’ll drive to the start of our trip (1 to 3 hours, depending on the destination you chose: Westland, Mount Cook or Aspiring National Park). From there, we’ll board the plane or helicopter and fly deep into the mountains!

We’ll choose the best itinerary for you depending on your ski abilities and snow and weather conditions. We’ll be skiing on glaciers while taking advantage of our time together to work on different aspects of you ski mountaineering techniques. In the evening, we’ll share a meal and talk about the day’s adventures with fellow skiers in cozy mountain huts. And then, on the last day, we’ll ski back down to lower elevation and, once there, fly back to the car.

We decide between Westland, Mt Cook and Aspiring National Parks depending on conditions. Each of them offers stunning views of the surrounding area and an amazingly varied selection of bowls, glaciers and peaks to explore. 

You can either come by yourself or bring a group along with you. We have a standard 6-day program but you can also choose to add days if you’ve got the availability (up to 10 days).
