Description

Skiing in North Africa? Yes that’s right! Spanning Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, the spectacular Atlas mountains run a staggering 2,500km and provide wonderfully wild ski touring opportunities!

The highest peak in the Atlas mountains is Toubkal at 4165m and there are seemingly endless peaks that pierce the sky.

The normal ski tour route starts from the town of Imlil, which is located at 1800m altitude. We arrive here by taking the motorway from Marrakesh, about an hour to the south.

In Imlil we can enlist the help of a porter to transfer our possessions to Netler Refuge on Mount Toubkal at 3200m. The hike to the refuge is about 5 hours through truly breathtaking landscape.

There is powder snow abound in these mountains and we can traverse various peaks over 4000m, this provides epic view one after another!

However, it is also easy to struggle with the altitude and along with cold nights, it is reccommended that you have ski touring experience. Even more importantly, you should have experience and be comfortable at high altitude. It will take us around 4 hours to reach each summit from the refuge.

Also, to optimize the program, we will adapt the itinerary according to weather conditions, and combine ski mountaineering with classic alpine routes to some of the most popular mountains in the area.

It will be well worth your time to visit Marrakesh, one of the four imperial cities. There’s so much to see including the largest traditional market in the country at the Jemaa el-Fnaa plaza.

One of the most visited plazas in the world, it has many stalls, music, dancers, acrobatics, food and more!

If you would like to discover the beautiful Atlas mountains of Morocco, get deep in the mountain snow and explore the vibrant Marrakesh, then sign up now and don’t miss out on this unique opportunity!

This trip must be booked at least one month prior to the requested departure date.

Mountain Guide

I'm an AEGM-certified mountain guide from Spain.

My work and my passion for the mountains have taken me all over the world.

I spent 8 years leaving in my van as a ski bum in La Grave, in the French Alps, enjoying the steep skiing there.

I also spent 5 years guiding ski touring, alpine climbing and rock climbing in Norway (Lofoten, Senja, Lyngen Alps, Kvaløya, Stetind), where you can feel the power of nature like in very few other places on Earth!

But it was in the Spanish Pyrennes, my own backyard, where I grew as a mountainer and skier. Here, you can enjoy some tapas and a good wine after a crazy heliski day!

You are very welcome to contact me to enjoy an amazing trip or adventure in the mountains!

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
