Description

Splitboarding in the Alps of Austria is a fantastic way to spend one, or several days. The snow is amazing. The views are spectacular, and the experience is absolutely unforgettable. And on this trip, I would like to take you splitboarding on the sensational Sonnspitze peak (2,062m).

Sonnspitze is located in the Kitzbuhel Alps, in the Tyrol area of Austria. Since the mountain is not enormous, at least by Alps standards, this trip will not be excessively difficult. In fact, people with little splitboarding experience can still enjoy it. However, since there will be an increase in altitude of at least 1,000 meters, and splitboarding is a physically demanding activity, participants should be in good physical condition.

This trip will begin at the parking lot in front of the Auracher wildpark. From there, we will follow the Wildalmgraben. After that, we will make our way over the Niederwildalm up to the Hochwildalm hut, (1,557 m). Finally, we will scale the rest of the peak, crossing a sleep slope below Schotting, to the summit. And from there, you will get to enjoy a thrilling descent back down!

Sonnspitze is conveniently located near several resort areas in the Tyrol. Some of the resort areas include Fieberbrunn and Saalbach. So if you are staying in those places, getting to the mountain and enjoying this trip is very easy.

If you would like to enjoy a great splitboarding adventure, send me a request and come to Sonnspitze. I have no doubt you will have a great time.

I also offer a beginner level splitboarding course in the Kitzbuhel Alps as well.

My guide ended up being a local snowboard guide named Peter. It was excellent. Lovely guy, we got to ride some powder as well as practice searching with the avalanche rescue equipment. All round good day. Would highly recommend

I would like to drop a note saying how amazing of a time I had climbing with Mathias. Coming from the United States all I asked was for a true Austrian Alps climbing experience. The first day we spent multi-pitch sport climbing up to grade UIAA 6+. Such and amazing day on bullet proof limestone.  The second day I got to experience alpine climbing that started with a two hour hike up a hanging glaciated valley to one of the classic routes.  I highly recommend arranging a climbing trip with Mathias. I will guarantee you will be exhausted at the end of each day with a huge smile on your face.  It was truly an experience of a life time and next time I am in Austria I will be booking another adventure with this group.

Arielle (France)
