9 Days

Apr, May

If you are looking for a truly one-of-a-kind skiing experience, this Vatnajökull Group Glacier Crossing in Iceland is a great option! Over 9 days, we will cross Europe‘s largest glacier. Join us for an unforgettable tour.

This is a cross-country group ski tour using pulka/sleds program. To begin the tour, we will meet you the day before our departure to go over the details for our itinerary and equipment. Next morning, we will pick you up at your accommodation in Reykjavik. Later, we will transfer to the snow line in the glacier on super-jeep transportation.

The Vatnajökull – or Vatnajokull – Glacier has several active volcanoes. The Grímsvötn volcano, for example, is one of the key highlights of the itinerary. Other key points on the tour are:

  • Iceland's highest peak, Hvannadalshnúkur (2,110 m), in Öræfajökull

  • The spectacular Esjufjöll mountains towards the east of the glacier

  • The descent down the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, which feeds the well-known Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon

When the program ends, we will take you back to your accommodation in Reykjavik.

The average walking time per day is between 7 and 9 hours. The total distance we will cover is between 100 and 130 km (2790 – 6923 ft). The maximum ascent will be of 750 m (2,460 ft).

On this tour, one of our guides will take a maximum of 6 guests. If there are more guests interested, a second guide can join us, for up to a total of 12 guests.

Weather conditions in this location are very similar to those in the Arctic. The terrain and weather are demanding, even in spring. This is why the level of difficulty for this tour is from Demanding to Strenuous.

We recommend arriving in Reykjavík 2 days before the beginning of the program. We can help you find your accommodation for before and after the program if you need so. What people are saying about Icelandic

My tour was cancelled ! Icelandic Mountain replace it with an another

The hike together with group was super nice and fun with lots of laughter. We had all what Iceland could offer - snow, ice, rain, wind, sun, dramatically beautiful nature and delicious food. Our guide Ágúst was super! He has a lot of energy and knowledge. Additionally he is a good people person and very good cook. I enjoyed the 5 day hike in Laugavegur together with group very much and would recommend it to anyone!

The guide was perfect, nice place And nice Experience

These guides love what they do and that shows. Without such an experienced mountain guide it would have been impossible to reach the summit in such dangerous conditions of the glacier.

Everything worked and was very well organized. We are very proud of our guide Ursula and the help guide Gary.
