Description
Framed by the stunning Owens Valley, Mount Whitney is the highest summit on the Great Basin divide. Its tallest peak reaches 4,421 m. Because of its magnificent height and its stunning nature and landscapes, it attracts adventurers and explorers year round. Winter is the time for the more daring to test out its terrain, and it is the ideal spot for a challenging and exhilarating climb. On our Guided Winter Climb in Mount Whitney, we encourage you to face that challenge head on, and help you on the way.
We begin our four day excursion with a briefing to get an overview of the terrain and check equipment. Although we are happy to show you the ropes, this is a trip for experienced climbers. You need to be fit to endure tough weather conditions. Of course, enthusiasm is required too! And the challenge is not without rewards. Stunning landscapes and a daring adventure complete this unique experience in the Sierra Nevada wilderness.
Once we start the climb, we will adjust pace and destinations depending on terrain, weather conditions and overall fitness of the group. At night, we will camp in the snowy wild and maybe do some stargazing by a warm campfire. Of course, we will also have a hearty nourishing dinner as part of the well deserved rest after a day of hard work. Although we expect previous experience and an advanced knowledge of climbing, throughout the excursion we will also learn techniques to enhance our command of winter climbing.
