What should I know about Bulgaria?
Bulgaria is quickly becoming a popular outdoor activity haven for adventure-seekers. The Pirin Mountains are scenic and full of opportunities for hikers and skiers alike. The country is quite inexpensive, making it a more affordable vacation spot than Europe’s other marquis mountain ranges. When you are not out exploring the wilderness around Bansko (where most of the outdoor activities take place) then be sure to take some time to visit Sofia, the capital, and if you’re around in the summer, the seaside resort town of Varna will also surely not disappoint.
Why should I choose Bulgaria for my adventure?
Stunning scenery
The Pirin Mountains are a gorgeous destination year-round. They are relatively remote and complete with pine forests and glacial lakes. Sofia and Bulgaria’s eastern coast are also both worthy destinations as well.
Plenty to do
From ski touring and snowshoeing in the winter to hiking and sightseeing in the summer, there is plenty to do year-round in Pirrin National Park. En route here, Sofia is also an excellent city full of cultural and historical attractions to take in.
Highly economic
Bulgaria is one of the cheapest countries in the European Union. Everything from excursions and accommodations to food and souvenirs cost about as little as you’ll find in the 27 member bloc. Bulgaria is a great destination for tourists on a shoestring budget.
What can I expect from the weather in Bulgaria?
During the summer, temperatures range from 15ºC to 25ºC. During the winter, temperatures range from -5ºC to 2ºC. The region gets about 700 mm of precipitation each year with most of it coming during the winter.
Which language is predominantly spoken in Bulgaria?
Bulgarian
What currency is accepted in Bulgaria?
Lev. Euros are also commonly accepted.
How can I get to Bulgaria?
The best way to get to Bansko and the Pirin Mountains is to fly into the international airport in Sofia then take a bus or train south to Bansko.
What’s the country code of Bulgaria?
+359
What’s the high season in Bulgaria?
The best time to visit for ski season is from January to May. The best time for hiking is from June to September.

Nikolay Pavlov is an experienced guide with intimate knowledge of the terrain and conditions in Bansko. A great half day trip with two summits on a very short notice. Additionally good company to ride with.

I only have good things to say about this day trip! Nikolay is a really good and experienced guide. We had such a great time in this via ferrata! Do not hesitate to book this :)

we approached Explore - Share to find a guide for the Via Ferrata Malyovitsa in Bulgaria. Nikolay Pavlov responded and from this moment remain in ongoing communication to make sure we receive a great service. he was very responsive and was kind enough to assist us in planning additional hiking days. on the July 31st we met one of his guides - Stoimaen (AKA - Bambita) and another guide - Elena which led my partner and myself through the Via Ferrata with a lot of good spirit and patience (and passion).they made the introduction to Bulgarian outdoors much enjoyable. The additional tips we received from this great team enhanced the quality of our Bulgarian adventure. much recommended. Regards Natasha & Tomer

We had 2 very professional guides whom we enjoyed very much. But this is a medium moderated course and it's not for people with no experience. It was a full day trip.
Unfortnately we had very little snow in Bansko at the time of our trip, despite the bad snow conditions we had a great time in the mountains and a great ski touring experience. Him and his team is really friendly and it feels like they try hard to make the tour as good as possible without jeopardizing safety. He also helped us arrange equipment at a local store in Bansko since one of us didn't have touring skis. I could definitely imagine coming back to Bansko and would gladly book another tour with Nikolay, hopefully with some more snow.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
