Valais is home to 45 four-thousanders, impressive peaks like the Matterhorn or the Monte Rosa massif, providing spectacular panoramas and a unique backdrop for summer outdoor activities. The best viewpoint for the Matterhorn is from the charming resort town of Zermatt. The spectacular Aletsch Glacier lies in Valais. It is part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch Protected Area, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Valais is a prime skiing, mountaineering and hiking destination, and also an amazing place for family holidays.
Valais has an overall very nice weather, with some of the driest and sunniest places in the country. Summers can be fairly hot around the Rhone valley, where temperatures can reach up to 35ºC. Temperatures are relatively mild in autumn.

If you are heading to the west part of Valais (French) you can fly into Geneve International Airport. Zürich Airport brings passengers closer to the east side (German). Then you have to connect by rail tunnel or drive over one of the passes. (2-3 hours). You can also reach Valais by train or vehicle from many cities.
Valais is at its sunny best in high summer, although you should visit in September-October if you want to a avoid the busy season, and when the weather is not too hot or cold.
