Ski from the top of Mont Blanc, the Dome du Gouter or some other famous peaks in the area
Located at the foot of Mont Blanc (a.k.a Monte Bianco), the charming resort town of Courmayeur is one of the Alps’ main winter sports centers. Although ski conditions may not always be as good as Chamonix (located just 22 km away on the French side of Mont Blanc), Courmayeur receives a lot more sunshine and is famous for it fun apres-ski scene and lively nightlife. The ski area is not as large as others in Europe (41 square-kilometers) but Courmayeur compensates with great off-piste skiing terrain. The Skyway Monte Bianco, a 3-stage cable car, will get you to Punta Helbronner, the closest you can get to the Mont Blanc summit in public transport. From here, you can access Chamonix Vallee Blanche.
Expect chilly weather with frequent snowfall. For more stable weather, consider visiting during March or April (avalanche risk is also lower during these months).
The most convenient airport is Turin’s followed by Geneva. You can then drive to Courmayeur in 1 hour and 40 minutes from Turin and 1.5 hours from Geneva (crossing the Mont Blanc tunnel).
Heliski season usually goes from December to April or May
