Self-guided Mountain bike tour in El Chaltén: Lago del Desierto

Booking through Explore-Share was really easy - I would use this platform again. The bike ride itself was also really fun. You meet at a hotel and they drive you to the starting point. You can take your time and stop to do small hikes or grab a snack. We opted to do the Glaciar Huemeles hike and get some empanadas after being dropped off at Lago del Desierto before starting the bike ride back to El Chalten. This was a really beautiful side trip that I would recommend - took about 1.5 / 2 hours. The bike ride was then about 4 hours, taking our time and making some short stops for water /snacks and to take in the views. It wasn't a technical mountain bike ride by any means, but the gravel road is pretty rough and got tiresome over the 37 km, which is why I gave 4 stars. The bikes themselves were in good shape though and had good suspension. If you don't want to bike the whole way back, they will pick you up at Bonanza around 5pm, but at that point we felt were already pretty close to town and didn't want to wait a few hours until 5pm, so we just kept going. We biked on a rainy day, but even then the views were still beautiful, and it was a really nice way to see the scenery along the range.
