Keep in mind that you will need to be in good physical shape, and have the resistance to trek long distances and in medium to hard conditions. Also, you will need to carry your luggage from days 5 to 7, although you can leave some of it in the car on day 4. Arrival in Bucharest. Transfer to Busteni (120 km, a 2-hour drive). Accommodation at a 3\* hotel. Traditional Romanian Dinner.

Arrival

Breakfast. We will take the cable car on the top of Bucegi Natural Park and begin the adventure. On the way, we will pass by the Carpathian Sphinx, the "Babele" rock formation, and walk on the main plateau for about 3 hours to Omu Peak.

From there, we will descend on Gaura Valley, the biggest glacial valley in Romania, to the Bran village area.

Accommodation in 3\* guesthouse. Lunch to go. Dinner.

Duration 8 – 9 hours, medium to hard, uphill 300 m / downhill 1700 m.

The adventure begins

Breakfast.

Trekking in Piatra Craiului National Park. We will stop at an authentic sheep farm for a "special" lunch (from June to September), we will cross authentic mountain villages, cross beautiful gorges, or, depending on the weather and how you feel, we can also climb the highest peak in the National Park (2238). 

Accommodation in Bran area at a 3\* guesthouse. Lunch to go. Dinner. Duration 7 – 9 hours, medium or medium to hard (depending on the route we choose), uphill 1200 m / downhill 1200 m_._

Piatra Craiului National Park

Breakfast. Bran Castle and then transfer to Balea Lake in the Fagaras mountains (150 km, about 3 hours driving). On the way, we will visit Balea waterfall.

Accommodation at Balea Chalet in double room, private facilities. Free time. Lunch to go. Dinner.

Bran Castle + Fagaras Mountains

Breakfast.

Balea Lake Chalet – historical Podragu Chalet (2136 m), on the main ridge of the Fagaras Mountains. Lunch to go. Duration: 5-6 hours, medium to hard, nice landscape, uphill/downhill walk: 1.100 m/1.000 m. Accommodation at a chalet in a room with 12-20 beds: toilets in the hall, cold water, no showers available. It is a basic mountain hut. Dinner.

Breakfast.

Podragu Chalet – Moldoveanu Peak and back.

We will climb Moldoveanu Peak (2545 m), the highest peak in the Romanian Carpathians, as well as Vista Mare Peak, the third-highest mountain in Romania.

Lunch to go. Duration: 6-7 hours, medium effort, uphill/downhill walk: 500 m. Accommodation in a chalet. Dinner.

Podragu Chalet – Moldoveanu Peak

Breakfast. Podragu Chalet – Podragu Valley – Victoria town. Lunch to go. Duration: 5-7 hours, downhill walk: 1400 m. Transfer to Bucharest (about 350 km). Accommodation. City tours by night. Dinner.

**Explore Carpathian's villages and discover the stunning landscapes and mountain culture of Romania on this exciting self-guided trekking adventure!**&#x20;

The tour begins and ends at the Bucharest airport, where you will be picked up and dropped off. From there, you will be transferred to Magura village, where the actual adventure begins. In Magura, you will meet one of our guides, who will give you the trekking instructions. This is a self-guided tour, so once you have your maps and explanations, you will be ready to set off. Below, you can find a detailed day-to-day description.

Some of the highlights of this tour include exploring the Piatra Craiului National Park and discovering the Bucegi National Park and the Seven Ladders canyon. You will also have the chance to visit Bram castle, not to mention the lovely towns of the Carpathian mountains.

Keep in mind that to join this trek, you need to be comfortable walking in uneven and uphill terrain for several hours each day. Therefore, you will need an excellent fitness level to participate. Of course, a spirit of adventure is a must too!

3-hour transfer from Bucharest airport – Magura village.

You will meet our guide who provide you all the info about the tour.

Accommodation and dinner at a 3\* local guesthouse for 2 nights.

Magura mountain village

Breakfast.

From the guesthouse you will trek around 2 km to Pestera, the next mountain village. You reach to a junction and from there you turn to the right and continue the trek towards “La table” point (this is a cross point where 8 trekking routes meet).

From there you follow the same sign, follow nice and large meadows, hardwood and pine forest to the bottom of the Piatra Craiului Mountain (“Rock of the King” or “King’s Stone”) for about 30 minutes.

The road turns into a forest. You reach to a junction in about 30 minutes, you turn to the left and follow the forest road that climbs into the forest. After 20 minutes with no signs, you will see 2 signs, red and yellow triangle which go to the Curmatura chalet (about 1 hour). From the guesthouse to Curmatura chalet you will walk between 3 and 4 hours on a medium route. You can have lunch at the chalet and then you continue the trek to Zarnesti town, the main gate to the National Park, following the yellow dot (2 hours of descending – easy). At some point, you will reach a small metal bridge (on your right), you cross the spring and walk up about 30  minutes to the guesthouse in Magura village.

(6-7 hours, medium effort, uphill/downhill walk: 500 m/ 700 m, appr. 16 km).

Piatra Craiului National Park - Pestera Village – Curmatura chalet (1470 m) - Magura village

Breakfast. Walk crossing the most authentic and beautiful mountain villages from the bottom of Piatra Craiului Park  until you reach Sirnea, the first touristic village of Romania.

You will reach Fundata, meet the locals and then continue to the nearby guesthouse.

(4-6 hours; easy to medium, uphill/ downhill walk: 200 m/ 200 m).

At the end of the tour you walk about 1.500 m on national road to the guest house (no other way).

Accommodation and dinner at a 3\* guesthouse for 3 nights.

National Park Piatra Craiului - Magura - Pestera - Sirnea-Fundata

Breakfast. Enjoy a nice hike on one of the ecotrails in Fundata village (3 – 4 hours, easy to medium, uphill/downhill walk: 300 m/300 m).

Easy Hike

After breakfast, you will head to Moieciu de Sus village following one of the most beautiful ecotrails in the area. You will cross meadows separated by fences, with breathtaking views over the Bucegi Natural Park.

The walking route starts from Fundata to the local church. From there, you follow one of the ecotrails (T3) to the center of Moieciu de Sus village. Continue on a steep climb via the T8 ecotrail, which starts from the Community Center. The climb becomes smoother and reaches a small plateau where there is a rocky formation called “The Top of the Church” – “Varful Bisericutei”.

(4-5 hours, medium effort, uphill/downhill walk: 400 m/ 400 m, appr. 14 km).

Transfer back to the guesthouse in Fundata (about 40 minutes).

Moieciu de Sus 

Breakfast.

Transfer from the guesthouse to the starting point of the trekking tour in Bucegi Natural Park (about 30 minutes of driving).

Follow the yellow triangle sign, on a wide forest road, for about 1 – 1 ½ hours.

After that, you will cross a small river and start to climb a steep forested section for about 20 minutes until you reach a nice meadow.

After resting a while, you will then continue the route, until you reach a big meadow with a former sheep farm on the right side.

Optional: from this point in about 1 hour, round trip, you can visit the “Devil mill waterfall”following the red cross sign.

Back in the meadow, you will follow the metal poles with blue triangle sign, crossing the meadow from left to the right, in diagonal, uphill. You go mainly up from there and in about 1 hour you reach a forest road and then a sheep farm. You can stop to taste the cheese made here (from June to September) for a small extra cost.

From the sheep farm, continue following the red triangle sign. At some point, after 1 km from the sheep farm, you will see a big rock with a sign on it. You follow the sign, pass nearby a former hunting house and in about 1-1 ½ hours, you will reach the main forest road, where the meeting point will be. Transfer to Brasov (about 40 minutes).

(5-6 hours, medium effort, uphill/downhill walk: 800 m/ 800 m, appr. 14 km).

In the morning, you can visit Bran Castle (Monday is opened at 12:00). Accommodation at a 3\* hotel/guesthouse located nearby the city center for 2 nights.

Brasov

Breakfast.

Short transfer from Brasov to the starting point of the last trekking day: Piatra Mare Mountain (10 km).

Head to the Seven Ladders Canyon (Canionul Sapte Scari) – an interesting karstic phenomenon – in the Piatra Mare range, part of the Southern Carpathian Mountains.

This stunning gorge is famous for its steep ladders that take you up the rock walls past a series of rushing waterfalls. On arrival, set off along meadow and forest paths, reaching the canyon after a 45-minute hike. Head inside, and spend the next 15 minutes or so crossing the bridges and climbing each of the near-vertical metal ladders that take up the gorge. As you go, enjoy thrilling close-up views of the tumbling waters and the towering rock walls around you. After your trek, choose between a 1.5-hour return route or a longer 2 to 3 hour trail, walking back through forests and glades to your meeting point. After your hike, your tour ends back at your Brasov hotel.

Eco-certified Hiking Tour in the Carpathians, Romania

Discover the most amazing mountain region in Romania on this 6-day hiking expedition that will take you to discover the Fagaras Mountains in the stunning Transylvanian Alps.

On this 6-day adventure, we will set off from Brasov on an intensive hiking journey that will take us all the way up to Moldoveanu (which at 2,544 m (8,346 ft) is the highest mountain in the country) and across the Fagaras Mountains. On the way, sparkling lakes, winding rivers, and glacial sceneries. We will spend the night in tents, right in the thick of the vibrant nature of the region.  You can find a detailed day-to-day itinerary below which may change if weather conditions require it.

Every day, we will trek between 5 – 8 hours, most of the time with a vertical gain of 2000 m.  Additionally, you will have to carry the tent, the food, and the sleeping bag. Therefore, to join this expedition, you need to have very good hiking experience and endurance. Luckily, we will have springs with fresh drinking water on the way, and the effort will be well worth it.

Complex Sambata (670 m) – Sambata Valley – Valea Sambetei Mountain Hut (1401 m) – Fereastra Mare a Sambetei (2188 m) – Fereastra Mica a Sambetei (2191 m) – approx. 6 hours. From the saddle Fereastra Mare a Sambetei, we will climb to the west-south-west over  Slanina peak(2268 m), than we will descend in Fereastra Mica a Sambetei, where we will set up camp.

Brasov- Fereastra Mica a Sambetei

Fereastra Mica a Sambetei (2191 m) – Portita Vistei (2380 m) – Vistea Mare Peak (2527 m) – Moldoveanu Peak, the highest peak of Romanian Carpathian chain (2544 m) – Vistea Mare Peak (2527 m) – Podragu Saddle (2307 m) – Lake Iezerul Podul Giurgiului (2264 m) – approx. 7 hours. Camping.  
From Portita Vistei, we will climb steadily on the Vistea Mare peak, the third highest peak in the Fagaras Mountains and in the Romanian Carpathians.

From there, on the highest sharp edge in the country, we will reach Moldoveanu Peak, the highest peak in Romania!

Moldoveanu Peak

Lake Iezerul Podul Giurgiului (2264 m) – Mircii Peak (2461 m) – Nerlinger Memorial (2287 m) – Fereastra Zmeilor – Fereastra Mica a Portitei Arpasului (2175 m) – Capra Saddle (2315m) – approx. 7 hours. Campsite on  
Nerlinger Memorial – dating from 1934.

Lake Iezerul Podul Giurgiului-Nerlinger Memorial

Capra Saddle (2315 m) – Laitel Peak (2390 m) – Caltun Lake (2135 m) – approx. 4 hours. Camping.

Today we have time to enjoy the view of Transfagarasan Highway, know as “the Road to the Sky”, “the Road to the Clouds”, “the Best Driving Road in the World” and even “A spectacular Monument to Earth-Moving Megalomania” and to do a short hike (approx. 1 hour) on the Vanatoarea lui Buteanu Peak (2507 m).

Transfagarasan Highway-Vanatoarea lui Buteanu Peak

Caltun Lake (2135 m) – Strunga Doamnei (2342 m) – Negoiu Peak (2538 m) – Cleopatra Saddle (2355 m) – Serbota Peak (2331 m) – Scara Saddle (2146 m) – Scara Peak (2306 m) – Avrig Lake (2007 m) – approx. 8 hours. Camping.

From Negoiu Peak (which offers us a magnificent view in all directions), the second peak of Romania, after Moldoveanu we descend to the north-west and after, we will pass Negoiu Mic (2485 m) peak. From there, we will reach Cleopatra Saddle – Saua Cleopatrei (2355 m). Between Saua Cleopatrei and Serbota (2311 m) peak, there is the most difficult marked section of the main ridge of the Fagaras Mountains, Custura Saratii; _this section is recommended only to experienced hikers._ The guide will evaluate whether to take this route or another, less exposed one.

Caltun Lake-Avrig Lake

Avrig Lake (2007 m) – Portita Avrigului (2178 m) – Suru Saddle (2133 m) – Suru Mountain Hut (1450 m) – Sebesu de Sus village – approx. 6 hours. Transfer to Brasov (approx. 2 hours).

On this 8-day trekking adventure, we will explore some of the most stunning spots of the Romanian Carpathian Mountains.

Every day, we will set off on a different trekking adventure and discover unique spots such as Bran Castle in Transylvania, some of Romania's oldest mountain villages, and unique wilderness spots including gorges, waterfalls, forests, and more. You can find a detailed day-by-day itinerary below.

Group departures will take place every Saturday. The average trekking time per day will be between 4 to 6 hours. Therefore, although this is not a technically demanding program, you will need a good fitness level.

Transfer Otopeni Airport - Brasov (the most important touristic city of Romania) approx. 3 hours or **Brasov Airport - Brasov** (20-30 minutes)**.** 

Accommodation at a 3\* guesthouse/hotel located nearby the old city center. Depending on the flight time we can have an evening Brasov walking tour.

Welcome Traditional Romanian dinner. Fringed by the peaks of the Southern Carpathian Mountains and resplendent with Gothic, baroque and renaissance architecture, as well as a wealth of historical attractions, Brasov is one of the most visited places in Romania. Founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 on an ancient Dacian site and settled by the Saxons as one of the seven walled citadels, Brasov exudes a distinct medieval ambiance and has been used as backdrop in many recent period films.

Breakfast. 40-min transfer to Bran village where Bran (Dracula's) Castle is located—we will explore the castle’s Gothic chambers and learn about the ties to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Then, we will begin our hike in Piatra Craiului National Park toward Magura village - an authentic and cozy mountain village. The path links the Bucegi Mountains to Piatra Craiului National Park. It's an easy to medium hike through a forest and meadows, with great views of both mountains and the Bran area with its mountain villages.

4-6 hour hike, medium effort, uphill/downhill walk 750 m / 450 m, 8 km.

Accommodation: 2 nights at a village guesthouse in Magura Village. Lunch pack and homemade dinner.

Bran Castle

Breakfast. Today we trek in the heart of Piatra Craiului National Park crossing the epic Zarnesti Gorges up to Curmatura hut at 1470 m. 

Info about the hike: 5 - 6 hours, medium, uphill/downhill walk 700 m, 14 km. Picnic lunch. Dinner at the guesthouse.

Breakfast. We will trek and cross beautiful authentic mountain villages from the bottom of the Piatra Craiului National Park and Bucegi Natural Park. We will pass through Magura, Pestera, Sirnea, Ciocanu, and Fundata, meeting the locals on the way.

Trekking time: 5-6 hours, easy to medium, uphill/ downhill walk 1083 m / 890 m, 15 km. Lunch pack. Home-made dinner and accommodation at a 3\* guesthouse for 3 nights.

Piatra Craiului National Park and Bucegi Natural Park - Magura - Pestera - Sirnea

Breakfast. We will hike through Fundata and Fundatica villages. 

Duration of the hike: 4 - 5 hours, easy to medium, uphill/downhill walk 300 m / 300 m, 10 km. Lunch pack and homemade dinner.

Fundata and Fundatica

After breakfast, a 40-minute transfer to Simon village. Full-day hiking trip in Bucegi Natural Park. We will hike on the wilder northern part of the mountain which is not so touristic. On the way, we will stop at Devil's Mill Waterfall and a local sheep farm where we can enjoy a Shepherd's lunch (from mid-June to mid-September). We will transfer back to the guesthouse.

Hiking info: 5-6 hours, medium effort, uphill/downhill walk 800 m / 800 m, 14 km. Lunch pack and dinner.

Bucegi Natural Park

Breakfast. Transfer about 1 1/2 hour to the starting point for "7 Ladders Canyon" from Piatra Mare mountain. The canyon has been carved in Jurassic limestone and is composed by seven waterfalls, the tallest being 15 meters high. The trail within the canyon is arranged with metal stairs and platforms.

Duration: 4-5 hours, medium effort, uphill/downhill walk: 400 m, 8 km. Lunch pack. Transfer to Brasov (about 30 minutes). Accommodation at a 3\* guesthouse/hotel located nearby the old city center and farewell dinner.

Ladders Canyon

Breakfast. Transfer to the Bucharest airport (about 3 hours) or to the Brasov airport (about 20-30 minutes).
