Interestingly enough, this summit was originally called Boggy Peak but was renamed after Barack Obama’s US election victory in 2009. As we begin the hike, you’ll see an information spot explaining the backstory.

The trail is around 6.6 km, and we’ll gain 450 meters of elevation. It takes a couple of hours to ascend and then less than an hour to descend. Along the way, you’ll get to enjoy the lush vegetation of tropical Antigua. Your guide will also point out the different type of plants like papaya trees or mango groves.

This hike will be a constant uphill and is quite steep in parts.  So, a good level of fitness is needed. Previous experience hiking is also recommended. The summit is actually closed locked behind a gate but your guide will have the key, so you can access the last stretch of the hike.

When you get to the top, you’ll get awesome 360-degree views of Antigua, including the sparkling southern coastline. If you’re lucky with the weather you may even get to see the island of Montserrat. This really is one of the best hikes in Antigua.

Come along with us on a guided hike to the beautiful **Pillars of Hercules.** These are naturally occurring limestone pillars on the coastline. The waves crashing against them makes for an awesome sight. They really are a must see if you’re visiting Antigua. Plus, the hike to get there is pretty fun!

We’ll start out from the **English Harbour** and make our way to the Shirley Head’s lookout. **Shirley Heights** is actually an old military base and has a lot of history. Your guide will be able to share this history with you as you hike.

The journey to the lookout will take around an hour and will include some uphill. Along the way, you’ll get to see **native flora and fauna.** When we get there, we’ll take time to enjoy the awesome view of the **English Harbour** before we continue on.

Our trail will then take us along the **Atlantic cliffside** and we’ll be able to take in beautiful views of the ocean. We’ll then weave through a trail that will take us down to the beach. There we’ll have to scramble across some boulders and walk through the water to reach our final destination, **the Pillars of Hercules.**

Hiking from the English Harbour to the Shirley Heights lookout is an awesome way to get active on your tropical vacation. Let one of our certified guides show you the way, and give you information about the area as you go along.

Situated on the most southerly tip of the island of Antigua, Shirley Heights lookout gives you amazing views of the English Harbour. The hike to get to the lookout is moderate, it can be done in one hour. There are some steep sections, but with a basic level of fitness though you won’t find this too much of a challenge. The biggest hazard is loose ground on the trail, so you’ll want to be surefooted!

We’ll hike through the dry jungle and see different kinds of cacti. There are also graveyards that have been there for centuries! If you’re into history then you’ll love this hike.

### **Located approximately three and a half miles north east of Codrington, on the island of Barbuda is the amazing Darby Cave.**

During this **half-day trip**, you will get to trek to and explore the amazing **Darby Cave**. A truly spectacular sinkhole in the middle of the island’s highlands, the cave will definitely take your breath away. The cave itself is **over three hundred feet in diameter and is approximately seventy feet deep**.

The walk to get to the cave will take from **forty-five minutes to an hour**. Throughout the trek, you will see plenty of palm trees and other tropical scenery. So, be sure to bring your camera! Also, around the cave, there is plenty of wild life, so don’t be surprised if you see some deer or land turtles.
