This 4-day trek starting in Mendoza takes you to the **“Milagro de los Andes” site, the crash site** of the Uruguay AF Flight 571 in 1972, with 45 passengers onboard, most of them rugby players. The accident was later told by survivors in a book, and immortalized by the 1993 Ethan Hawk/John Malkovich film “Alive!”.

**This trip is a tribute to those brave survivors.** The plane was flying from Uruguay to Chile, but **it crashed in the Andes Mountains**. Twelve passengers died and the survivors resisted there for more than 2 months, experiencing thirty degrees below zero during the nights, hunger and death.

They tried to resist on the little food reserves they had, waiting to be rescued, but they lost hope when listening to a radio they learned their search had been abandoned. Finally, desperate because of the freezing temperatures, the menacing avalanches and distressed by the continued death of their companions, **two of them decided to cross the immense mountains** to reach Chile.

This is how on December 22, 1972, after having been **isolated for 72 days**, the world found out that **sixteen of them had defeated death in** the Andes. This was called the “Milagro de los Andes”(the Andes Miracle). This trekking tour takes you to the place of the crash, today a sanctuary.

We will meet in the city of Mendoza, and from there, we will transfer to El Sosneado village, where our adventure begins. **You can check the day-by-day itinerary below.** 

Bear in mind this is **challenging, truly demanding trek**, so you need to have an excellent fitness level to join us, as we will be **trekking for a total of 12 to 13 hours** on the third day, with an elevation gain of about 1000m. We will be camping in the mountains, and trekking on rock terrain, over snow or ice during some sections, although without technical difficulty.

Welcome at the Sosneado, meeting with the guides. Individual equipment check. Transfer by vehicle through the Laguna del Sosneado, continuing up near the ruins of the Hotel Abandonado del Sosneado, or near the Soler Refuge. Camp Setting. Guidelines briefing for the upcoming days.

El Sosneado

From Hotel Abandonado del Sosneado, we trek to the base camp (2600m). We start hiking, crossing the Atuel, Rosado and Barroso Rivers. After an 8-hour approach trek we arrive at the place where we will build our base camp, next to the Barroso River. The crossing of the mighty rivers will be supported by guides, baqueanos and made on horses that the organization will arrange for the crossing. We set our camp at 2600m. This day we will travel approximately  13 kilometers. Elevation gain:400m.

Hotel Abandonado del Sosneado - Base Camp

At dawn we will start the trekking towards the Valle de las Lágrimas (Valley of Tears), reaching up to 3650 meters above sea level, we will arrive at the border between Chile and Argentina, where the remains of the Fairchild FH-227D plane are located. It is the sanctuary of the 1972 Andes tragedy. This day will require us about 12 to 13 hours of trekking (round trip). March lunch, return to the camp, snack, dinner. The Valle de las Lágrimas, still contains physical evidence of the plane crash. The plane was burned with gasoline after burying the victims. A memorial cross was also placed at this place. This day we will travel approximately 12 kilometers in ascent, with an elevation gain of  1000 meters, and the same 12 kilometers, descending 1000 meters.

Base Camp - Trek to the Valle de las Lágrimas

We will trek back to the local post near the Hotel Abandonado of El Sosneado. Transfer to El Sosneado village and end of our tribute trip to the Uruguayan Airplane. On this day we will trek for about 5 hours.

Mendoza city. For the convenience of our clients we will offer the transfer service from the Mendoza Terminal, due to the difficulty of traveling to El Sosneado in line buses, since the schedules are scarce, the distance is large (359 km. ) and you have to make several combinations of schedules sometimes.

Would you like to live an unforgettable experience in the **Andes**? Go from **Mendoza** in **Argentina** to **Santiago de Chile** on this **7-day trek** and cross the range through a historical pass.

On this program, I invite you to cross the Andes through the **Portillo Piuquenes Pass**, a historical site used by the Army of the Andes to liberate Chile in 1816.

Although this expedition is not technically difficult, keep in mind that it is **physically demanding**, so it is very important to have a **good level of fitness**.

Arrival at **Mendoza**. Meet with the guides and check the equipment. We will drive to **Manzano Histórico**, situated at 1,700 meters above sea level, and continue to Portinari Refuge, where we carry out customs formalities. Then, we will begin our trekking to **Scaravellia Refuge**, at 3,660 meters above sea level, and from there to the **Yaretas Valley**, in a 3-4 hours trek. Surrounding us, we will get to see Cerro Keops, Cerro Punta Negra and Cerro Punta Blanca.

Mendoza - Portinari Refuge - Yaretas Valley

This is an essential day in the expedition. We will practice some trekking and rest in order to acclimatize and prepare for our next day’s goal.

Acclimatization day in Yaretas

Slow ascent to Portillo Argentino, a historic spot situated at 4,380 meters. We will pass between two peaks, Cerro Chiquitoon our right and Portillo Norte on our left. On the way, we will contemplate great panoramic views of the Alto Valle of the Tunuyan River and the surrounding glaciers and mountains such as Cerro Mesón San Juan, Tupungato Volcano and Cerro Marmolejo. Then, we will descend to the Real de la Olla camp.

Full-time working time, approximately **10 to 11 hours**.

Portillo Argentino - Real de la Olla

After the long journey of the day before, on this day we will take a 4-5 hour walk to Corral de Alambre. We will cross the Tunuyan River with the help of the horses.

Easy walk of 5 or 6 hours where we will have to cross streams.

Corral de Alambre - Casa de Piedra

On this day, we will start our hike before dawn and ascend to the “Hito Fronterizo Paso Piuquenes”, located at 4,040 meters above sea level in the border with Chile. From there, we will descend through Chilean territory to Yeso River and, after 3-4 hours, we will reach Termas del Plomo, where we will relax in the thermal baths.

Day of 8 to 9 hours of walking. Lastly, we will go to San Gabriel for customs procedures, and continue our trip to Santiago de Chile. Arrival at the hostel (dinner not included).

Located in the **Andes**, at **5,698 meters** of altitude, **Cerro El Plata** is one of the tallest mountains in the province of **Mendoza**. It is the perfect chance for those who are looking for preparation and acclimatization to Aconcagua.

During this **10-day expedition** in the Andes, we will get to see some of the best landscapes in the range. Take a look at the itinerary below for a detailed description of each day activities.

Keep in mind that the summit day will be long and demanding, so it is important for you to have a **good physical condition**. Also, it is good to have **previous experience in the mountains**. If you need it, I can teach you how to use an ice axe and crampons.

Meeting in the city of Mendoza. Individual equipment check, and rent what is needed. Transfer to Vallecitos Refuge (2,900 meters). Trek Acclimatization.  Overnight in Refuge.

We start with an acclimatization trekking and get to our next camp, at 3,300 meters. Approximately 1, 30 hours of activity. We can also choose the Piedra Grande camp, half an hour later.

Join me on this 14-day expedition in northern Argentina and climb **Incahuasi Volcano (6640m)**, a stratovolcano in the Argentine-Chilean border and one of the 10 highest summits in South America. Our “2 x 6000 Volcanic Tour” also includes the **ascent of Nevado San Franciso (6040m)** and other peaks in order to get the best acclimatization possible.

Incahuasi lies at the end of a long chain of other giant peaks of more than 6000 meters,  such as San Francisco, El Fraile, El Muerto, Ojos del Salado, Cerro Solo and Tres Cruces. During these days, you will discover the extraordinary beauty of the Andes mountains and landscapes.

On the first day, we will pick you up at the **Catamarca or La Rioja airport** and transfer to **Fiambalá,** in the Catamarca province, a trip of about 300 kilometers. On the second day, we head to the Cortaderas Hotel in the mountain and from there we will transfer to the Las Grutas refuge on the third day.

We will spend some days in **Las Grutas** for trekking and climbing acclimatization. You will have the chance of spotting local wildlife and you can even relax in a natural hot spring at 4200m if you wish.

You will get acclimatized before attempting the Incahuasi summit by ascending the **Coquena (4100m), Falso Morocho (4600m) and the Bertrand Volcano (5300m)**. Then we will move to the Incahuasi Volcano high camp. Already with a great physical and physiological acclimatization obtained on the previous days, we will be ready for the Incahuasi summit! **You can check the day-by-day itinerary below.**

This is a challenging mountaineering program, so you must have a good fitness level and being mentally prepared to climb one of the highest mountains in America. This ascent is suitable for people with previous experience on 6000-meter climbs or more than 5500m on expedition sof 7 days or more. We might use crampons and crossing picks on some sections.

Ascent to Cerro Falso Morocho (4500m). From the summit there is a beautiful view of the Six-thousanders Valley. Approximately 2.30 to 3 hours of ascent, 1 hour to 1:30 hours of descent.

Ascent to Bertrand Volcano (5300m).We ascend to the top of this beautiful volcano, with a beautiful view of the great 6000-meter peaks and its huge crater. The ascent/descent takes us approximately 8 to 9 hours.

 Las Grutas (4100m). Rest, acclimatization, hydration.

We move to the base of the San Francisco volcano at 4800 meters above sea level. From there we begin our summit attack. Descent. We move to Las Grutas Refuge. Approximately 12 hours of activity.
