After my career as a ski racer for the Swiss National Ski Team I traveled to Patagonia and fell in love with an other great mountain range, the Patagonian Andes. My passion to work with people and to be able to enjoy the great outdoors where the reasons, why I became an UIMLA- mountain leader and a snow-sport instructor with a Federal Certificate of Higher Vocational Education and Training.  
Since 2007 I’m guiding my friends and clients in the Swiss and French Alps and show them my second home, the Patagonian Andes. That’s where I spent several months every year.  
I’m based in Chamonix and St.Moritz while I’m in Europe and in Bariloche during my Patagonian months.

This amazing 10-day hiking tour takes you along the **Dolomites High Mountain trail**, enjoying the view of this unique jagged mountains, discovering the authentic South Tyrol natural beauty and tasting delicious local food along the way.

Nestled in northeastern Italy, the Dolomites are one of the most dramatic mountain ranges in the world, featuring impressive cliffs, limestone towers, vertical rock walls, alpine lakes and green meadows. Their spectacular landscapes, flora, fauna and history make them truly unique!

During this 10-day hiking tour in the Dolomites, you will also discover three different natural parks and pretty mountain villages, staying in beautiful hotels and one night in a traditional mountain guesthouse.

Starting from Cortina Cortina d’Ampezzo our traverse takes us to Val Gardena and **the Sella group massif**, finishing at the foot of the amazing Rosengarten towers at Karer pass. **You can see the detailed day-by-day itinerary below.**

Among many other special moments, you will see the stunning three peaks of the **Tre Cime di Lavaredo** (Drei Zinnen) and relax at sunset watching the last rays of evening light as they redden the mountains, around Pederü mountain guest house. Cortina d'Ampezzo

After a short drive past beautiful Misurina lake we start with a gentle hike at the foot of the famous vertical rock needles Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

Tre Cime di Lavaredo

A short drive brings us to the south side of the Cortina valley from where we hike to the beautiful mountain lake Mondeva located at the foot of the imposing Croda da Lago. Here we stop for a drink at the mountain hut and can later admire the Mondeval alpine pastures from the Forcella Ambrizola Pass. We continue to Forcella Giau and meet our minivan at Passo Giau.

13,4km, 6hrs,  + 864m – 327m

Croda di Lago

We hike through the Fannes-Sennes nature park today on the Alta Via, a high trail that crosses the Dolomites, and visit the Seekofel hut, one of the oldest mountain huts in the Dolomites. Over green pastures we reach Fodara Vedla to test the best Apfelstrudel in the area. Down a steep military road and we are in Pederü.

 Malga Ra Stua – Rifugio Seekofel – Pederü 

A trail through beautiful alpine pastures in the heart of the Fannes – Sennes Nature park and a sea of rocky limestone formations decorate our way up to Fanes Alm. A short way down a steep valley and we’re in the Alta Badia valley.

14,3km, 5hrs, + 635m, – 575m

Pederü, Lavarella hut, Fanes Alm, Capana Alpina

From Kolfschung we take a small cable car up to our hiking start. We hike a panoramic high trail today and finish the hike in the beautiful small town of Wolkenstein in the famous Val Gardena.

7.4km, 5hrs, + 545m, – 339m

San Cassiano – Kolfschung – Crespeina alta via – Wolkenstein (Val Gardena) 

This hike leads us around one of the mightiest of the Dolomite mountains. Thanks to this loop path, you can circumnavigate the whole Langkofel / Sassolungo mountain range and enjoy continuously different sceneries and panoramas, always spectacular, while you proceed. We start and finish our hike with cable cars.

13km, 5hrs, + / – 540m

Wolkenstein – Sassolungo loop (Langkofel / Plattkofel) – Sellajoch 

The Rosengarten towers are very unique and our loop brings us to the Vajolon mountain cabin which is situated right underneath the steep rocky faces of the Rosengarten towers. We might spot some rock climbers on our way back towards the cable car.

10-day Hiking holiday in the Dolomites, near Cortina d’Ampezzo

**This 12-day hiking tour takes us to the heart of the most breathtaking mountain scenery in the Swiss Alps.**

We start in **Grindelwald** at the foot of the world-famous **Eiger**. Then it’s on to **Lötschental**, a hidden valley off the beaten tracks and astonishing culture. Afterwards, we’ll stay in the world-famous hiking center **Zermatt**, against the Alps most striking mountain, the **Matterhorn** and end up at the **Lake of Geneva**.

This tour has a little of everything, and is a perfect introduction to **Switzerland**.

The treks take between 4 and 8 hours each day. We walk along country paths and forest roads, swell as narrow mountain paths. There are some steeper climbs to manage, the ascents are usually evenly steep.

I particularly enjoy this hiking program because…  
– we have the chance to see beautiful flora and hike in an unique alpine environment with lakes and grassland.  
– we will visit authentic places like cheese traditional production farms in which we will sleep. It is an unique opportunity to meet with locals and see how they live.  
– we will take some old mountain lifts that where many years ago impressive engineering innovations and which reflect the old time wish of local people to allow tourists to see their mountains.

**Day 0 – Meeting in Grindelwald**  
Meet the guide in Grindelwald, dinner all together and night at the hotel in Grindelwald.

**Day 1 – Schynige Platte – Faulhorn – First**  
Transport by train and cogwheel railway up to Schynige Platte. From here we walk up to Faulhorn for a snack at Europe’s oldest mountain hostel. From there we walk down to First and take the cable car down to Grindelwald. Night in Hotel in Grindelwald

– total descent 400 m  
– total time: 5hrs

**Day 2 – Lauterbrunne – Via Alpina – Murren**  
Spectacular views to Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau on our walk to the car-free mountain village of Murren. Night in Hotel in Murren.

– total time 2-3hrs

**Day 3 – Murren – Stechelber – Oberhornsee**  
An easy but steep hike trough the wild, romantic valley up to our mountain Hotel Obersteinberg. From there it’s only an hour up to the small hidden Oberhorn-lake. Night at mountain Hotel Obersteinberg (2065m)  
– total ascent 1146 m  
– total time: 4hrs

**Day 4 – Obersteinberg – Kandersteg – Oeschinensee**  
We get up early to have a look at the cheese making up in the Alps. After a hearty breakfast we walk down to Stechelberg and take the bus and train to Kandersteg. From here we walk up to lake and Hotel Oeschinen (1578m). A wonderful place to be and spend the night. Night at Hotel Oeschinensee

**Day 5 – Kandersteg – Lötschental – Fafleralp**  
The train brings us trough the Lötschberg Tunnel to the Valais valley. We walk on a panoramic trail along the Lötscher-Valley to the historic mountain Hotel Fafleralp (1700m). Night at Hotel Fafleralp.

– total time 2,5hrs

**Day 6 – Fafleralp – Anenhutte – Fafleralp**  
Today we visit a mountain hut next to a glacier surrounded by huge mountains. Night at Fafleralp.

**Day 7 – Fafleralp – Moosalp – Zermatt**  
We walk panoramic trail around Moosalp with great views over the Rhone-valley before we have lunch at a nice mountain restaurant. In the afternoon we stroll down the alpine pastures to Stalden. Transport to Zermatt. Night at the hotel in Zermatt.

**Day 8 – Zermatt – 5 Lakes hike to Gornergrat – Zermatt**  
First walk in Switzerlands’ trekking paradise Zermatt up to Gornergrat (2578m) on the 5 lakes trail. Amazing views to Matterhorn and many 4000m peaks and glaciers. Night at Hotel in Zermatt.

**Day 9 – Zermatt – Schwarzsee – Hörnlihutte (3260m) – Zermatt**  
We walk to the foot of the Matterhorn today. Night in Hotel in Zermatt.

**Day 10 – Zermatt – Montreux – Chateau Chillon**  
The great swiss railway system brings us to the french speaking lake Geneva area. We visit Chateau Chillon castle today and make some time to taste the local wines. Night at Hotel in Montreux

**Day 11 – Montreux – Lavaux – Montreux**  
Walk through the UNESCO world heritage vineyards of Lavaux with vine tasting. Last Night in Montreux.

Bernese Alps, Matterhorn and Lake Geneva

The unique geography of the **Appenzell** and **Toggenburg** region, coupled with its fascinating culture and history, makes Appenzell a fun hiking destination. Folded mountain peaks rise abruptly from green pastures where local farmers, dressed in traditional costume, move their cows up to the Alps.

We hike up to **Alpstein** mountain ranges tales peak the **Säntis**, where we can enjoy views across the Swiss border and into **Austria** and **Liechtenstein**.

The treks take between 4 and 8 hours each day. We walk along country paths and forest roads, swell as narrow mountain paths. There are some steeper climbs to manage.

I particularly enjoy this hike because…  
– it is the place where I come from and I like to make it discover to others;  
– we get to know 2 different cultures in places located very close to each other (at both side of the Säntis);  
– people there are very welcoming, always ready to help, advice, share…

**Day 0 – Arrive and meet in Appenzell**  
Meeting together in Appenzell. Hotel check-in an cultural walk. Night at Hotel in Appenzell

**Day 1 – Appenzell – Bollenwees**  
We ascend the Alpstein massif on a winding trail up to a treasured Berghaus at Bollenwees on the shore of the Fählen-lake. Night at Mountain Hotel Bollenwees.

**Day 2 – Bollenwees (1471m) – Meglisalp**  
Hike over two mountain passes, the Zwinglipass and the Rotsteinpass with stunning vistas down to Meglisalp. A typical working farm and traditional mountain retreat. Night at Meglisalp.

– total descent 750 m

**Day 3 – Meglisalp (1520m) – Säntis (2502m)**  
A rocky trail, the famous Lisengrat, takes us to the summit of Säntis, the highest peak in eastern Switzerland. Night at a classic Berghotel on the summit.

**Day 4 – Säntis – Alt St.Johann – Unterwasser**  
We take the cable car down to Schwägalp and a bus brings us to the beautiful Toggenburg valley. We walk along a very special trail, the Klangweg. There are many interesting instruments to discover along the trail. Night in Hotel in Unterwasser

**Day 5 – Unterwasser – Gamserrugg – Voralp**

**Day 6 – Voralp – Werdenberg**

Hiking in Alpstein, Säntis

The famous trek between the resorts of **Chamonix** (France), and **Zermatt** (Switzerland), was pioneered in the mid-19th century. It takes us through the most spectacular scenery: glacial valleys, forests alpine meadows and through rustic villages that retain their centuries-old charm and rural way of life.

Wildlife abounds in the high alpine meadows, giving us good odds of seeing a Steinbock, chamois, marmot or even an eagle. The days end in a comfortable hut or hotel, allowing us to carry only relatively light day packs. After a warm-up day in Chamonix we will complete the route in a 9-day trip, using cable cars, taxi, bus and train transfers for connections between the hikes.

The Walker’s Haute Route is a long and demanding trip requiring very good physical  
fitness and preparation. After our first two relatively gentle days, we cover from 10 to  
almost 17 kilometers most days, through great changes in elevation; ups and downs per day are usually well in excess of 1000meter, and often more than 1200 meters.

Good endurance, balance, and agility are required to get safely and comfortably through the toughest days. Weather and temperature extremes also can entail hazards we must be prepared to manage.

I particularly enjoy this hike because…  
– we go through small, preserved, traditional and beautiful swiss villages (ex. Arolla, Zinal)  
– there is an awesome final reward after a long hike, the city of Zermatt and the breathtaking view on the Matterhorn.  
– we do nice meetings along the way including with peasants taking care of their cows in the alpine grassland.  
– I love the local snacks in Zermatt: Nusstorte, a traditional, sweet, caramelised and nut-filled pastry 😉

Please find below the itinerary and the detailed day by day program:

**Day 0**  
Rendez-vous in Chamonix, dinner all together and night at the hotel in Chamonix.

**Day 1 – Warm up hike in the Chamonix Valley.**  
Our hike will take us into the Aiguilles Rouges, with spectacular views across the Chamonix valley to Mont Blanc and the famous glacier, the Mer de Glace. We will ride the cable car to the Planpraz at 2000m to begin our walk, thereby acclimatization to higher elevation.  
3-4 hours hike

**Day 2 – Village Le Tour to Col de Forclaz.**  
We hike up above treeline to the Col de Balme and descend into Switzerland, where we get an up-close view of the Glacier de Trient. Night at the Hotel at Col de la Forclaz.  
– total ascent 950 m  
– total descent 890 m  
– total distance 15.5 km

**Day 3 – Col de Forclaz to Champex-Lac.**  
Steep climb over the Fenêtre d’Arpette. After a pause for views at the col, a long descent down the Val d’Arpette brings us through larch forests, into deeper evergreen woods and to the pretty lakeside village of Champex.  
– total ascent 1050 m  
– total descent 1170 m  
– distance 12.6 km

**Day 4 – Champex-Lac to Cabane du Mont Fort**  
Via the Orsiére Valley and trough the villages of Sembrancher and Chable. Cable car to Les Ruinettes within the Verbier ski area and walk to the Cabanne du Mont Fort 2457m)  
– total ascent 350m  
– total descent 700m  
– distance 17 km

**Day 5 – Cabane Mont Fort to Cabane Prafleuri.**  
Via the Col Termin(2648m), Col de Louvie (2921m) or optional via the Col de la Chaux we traverse the grand desdert before ascending to the final Col de Prafleuri. Night at cabane de Prafleuri (2624m)  
– total ascent 900 m  
– total descent 500 m  
– distance 14 km

**Day 6 – Cabane Prafleuri to Arolla.**  
Via Col des Roux (2804m) where delightful views awaits of Lac des Dix. Climing again to Col de Riedmatten(2919m) and from here descent through tumbling stream drainages and flowery meadows to our grand old hotel tucked deep within mature larch forest in Arolla.

– distance 17 km

**Day 7 – Arolla to La Sage**  
Via Lac Bleu on to the Vald’Herens to the village of La Sage (1667m)  
– total ascent 300 m

**Day 8 – Zinal to Gruben**  
Via Barnueza alpage (2211m) and Col du Forcletta at (2875m) into the german speaking  
village of Gruben.  
– total ascent 1200m

**Day 9 – Gruben to St. Niklaus**  
Via Augustbordpass (2894m) and Jungen / 1955m) to St.Nicklaus.  
– total ascent 1260m  
– total descent 1100m  
– distance 13.5 km

**Day 10 – St.Niklaus to Europahutte**  
Today we start the two-day finale into Zermatt, called the Europaweg. The Matterhorn comes into sight at the head of the valley and we reach the wooden Europahutte at 2,265m and our home for the night. (As an alternative to this difficult 2-day finish,  
we also offer the easier 1-day valley route from St Niklaus to Zermatt.)

**Day 11 – Europahutte to Zermatt**  
The Europaweg continues today to finally walking high above Zermatt. A last descent past barns and huts at Findeln brings us into Zermatt.

La Haute Route hike, Chamonix to Zermatt

**Join me on the ultimate mountain hike: the classic Tour du Mont Blanc in 10 days.** Technically, it will be an 11-day trip, as we will have a welcoming and meeting day. We will hike the complete circuit through some of the most stunning scenery in the Alps.

The **Tour de Mont Blanc (TMB)** is a 168km route that traverses three countries: **France**, **Italy, and Switzerland.** It’s a fantastic way of discovering picture book Alpine villages, cultural delight, and the beautiful cities of **Chamonix** **and Courmayeur.**

During these 10 days, we will stay in a different location every night. We will sleep either in small family-run village hotels or in lodges. **You can find the day-by-day itinerary at the bottom of this page.**

Please note you will need a **good physical shape to enjoy this hike**. **It’s a challenging route.** Along the way, there is an accumulated height gain and loss of about 9000 m. Also, we will cross from valley to valley through mountain passes, with some steep and long ascents and descents.

This hiking traverse is suitable for regular walkers in good physical shape. On this trail, the terrain is diverse, with forest trails, country lanes, high mountain meadows and rocky mountain paths. Besides, we may have to hike over some snowfields, as this is an early summer tour.

The charming city of **Chamonix, in France, will be our starting point**. We will meet there, have dinner all together and then, the next day, the adventure begins!

Arrival in Chamonix

We start with a cable car ride up to Bellevue and ascent to Col de Tricot. A great lunch waits for us after a steep descent to the alpine village Chalets du Miage. We pass Refuge de Truc and finish the day in Les Contamines.

Les Houches (1007 m)-Les Contamines (1167 m)

On a Roman road we make the long ascent to the Col de la Bonhomme (2329m). We then traverse the hillside to another slightly higher Col before a descent to the hamlet of Les Chapieux.

Les Contamines (1167 m)-Les Chapieux (1554 m)

We follow the route through Vallee des Glaciers and up to Col de la Seigne (2516m) where we cross the border into Italy. From the Col we descend slightly down to Val Veny for a night in Courmayeur.

Village du Glacier (1554 m)-Courmayeur

Today we have a rest day in Courmayeur. There are great shops cafes and bars. I suggest also a trip up the cable car to point Helbronner. We will enjoy fantastic views of Mont Blanc and the glaciers of the Valle Blanche. Night in Hotel in Courmayeur

Courmayeur (1226 m)-Rest day

We head up the Mont de la Saxe Ridge to the Bertone Refuge for a coffee. Then along the ridge with some of the finest views of the Mont Blanc range, to the Refugio Ferret(2025m).

Courmayeur-Refugio Ferret (1226 m)

A gentle traverse of the mountainside to the Rifugio Elena for morning coffee. A climb to the Grand Col Ferret (2537m) where we cross the border into Switzerland. Down through the flower meadows to the small village of La Fouly.

Rifugio Ferret (2015 m)-La Fouly (1610 m)

**Day 7: La Fouly (1610m) to Champex (1466m).**  
An easier day as we follow a Swiss mountain valley before a short ascent to Champex, a picture book Alpine village.  
Night in a Pension in Champex.

La Fouly (1610 m)-Champex (1466 m)

We climb along the Bovine trail, there are stunning views down to the Roman town of Martigny and the Rhone valley as we walk to Trient for the night.

Champex (1466 m)-Trient (1279 m)

We hike over the Col de Balme, along the Posettes ridge and down through the forests to Argentière.

Trient (1279 m)-Argentière (1252m)

From the Col des Montets we head up through the Nature Reserve to the famous Lac Blanc which provides a magnificent view of the Mont Blanc Massif. We walk down to La Flégere (1875m) and take the cable car down back to Chamonix.

Stunning snow-capped peaks, turquoise glacial lakes, beautiful meadows and the unique Quechua culture make this **14-day trek** in the Cordillera Blanca **an experience of a lifetime.**

The **Alpamayo Circuit trek** takes you to discover the incredible mountain scenery of the Andes of Peru, crossing high passes between deep valleys, passing through remote villages and Quechua farming communities. The view of **Alpamayo (5947m)**, considered **one of the most beautiful mountains in the world**, is one of the highlights of this tour.

The majestic Cordillera Blanca boasts  a pristine scenery and breathtaking landscapes at the heart of the impressive Andes mountain range in Peru, with several peaks between 5700 to 6000 metres of altitude, including Huascarán (6768m), the highest mountain in the country.

During this 14-day trekking loop, we will be hiking pas**t spectacular glacial blue lakes**, surrounded always by amazing peaks. Along these days, we will cross eleven mountain passes and many stunning glaciers.

We will meet in the town of **Huaraz**, where we will do some **acclimatization hikes**, and then leave the town to camp in the mountains. We will also enjoy the view of beautiful meadows and the opportunity to see some remains of pre-Incan ruins along the trail.

During these days, we will be hiking at an altitude **between 2900m and 4860m, covering 140km in 11-Days**, with two acclimatization days with day hikes around Huaraz.  There will be many several back to back 7 to 8 hour hiking days, so you need to be well acclimatized to altitude before starting the trek, by spending at least three nights in Huaraz (or anywhere above 3500m).

We will be **hiking every day only with a daypack**, spending the night in tents in  camp sites. Local porters (arrieros), donkeys and cooks will assist us along the trek. Through daily interactions with the porters and in the few small villages we will visit along the way, you will also learn about the ancient Quechua culture and langague.

Once we start the trekking circuit in the mountains, our daily routine goes like this:  
Every morning starting at around 7.00 we bring you hot tea or coffee to the tent. Then as you pack your day pack and the duffel for the donkeys back we prepare your breakfast. By 8:30/9:00 we’ll start walking on the trails. After a picnic lunch we hike several more hours to reach the camp for the next night. Now you’ll have some time to get cleaned up and for relaxation. After a delicious dinner, chances are you’ll be scurrying to the warmth of your sleeping bag shortly after dinner. Nights come early close to the equator and the temperature drops quickly once the sun goes down.
