**El Negrito** in **Tafí del Valle, Tucumán** is a stunning and challenging summit all hikers and mountaineers will love. This fantastic peak in the **Cumbres Calchaquíes** of **Argentina** offers breathtaking views and an exciting ascent opportunity.

Tafí del Valle is a charming small town in Tucumán, in the **northwest of Argentina**. This high altitude spot is famous for offering all sorts of outdoor sports, such as horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking. It is also a beautiful place to buy local crafts and try local food, including the famous empanadas of Tucumán.

To ascend El Negrito, we’ll begin at “**El infiernillo**” (3,000 m) and hike for 3-4 hours up to 3,700 meters above sea level. We’ll camp for the night. The following day, we’ll hike for 10 to 12 hours more to reach the summit (4,660 meters) and descend the mountain.

I recommend this trip to people in good physical shape, with some experience in the high mountains ready for a unique experience. The best time to do this hike is during the winter months when the weather is cold and dry, though the climb can be done year round. Be aware that the summer is really humid.
