### **The Pirin Mountains of Bulgaria are absolutely gorgeous. They are a great place to hike, mountaineer and ski and splitboard. And, on this full-day trip, I would like to guide you on a ski touring and splitboarding adventure in one of the finest areas in the Pirin Mountains: Bansko.**

**Bansko** is a small town that operates as a ski resort during the winter months. It is a fantastic gateway to an abundance of top notch ski touring and splitboarding locations in the **Pirin Mountains**. **Join me to climb the highest mountain in the Balkan Peninsula, Mount Musala (2925 m) on this day trip. You will not only see spectacular views of pristine lakes, deep gorges, and high ridges but also get to discover the rich plant life of the area.**

Located in the **Rila National Park,** **Muasla is the highest peak in the Rila Mountains** and is definitely worth exploring. The mountain range is no ordinary range as it is home to several **towering peaks, deep ravines, and over 150 lakes.** And, you will **witness a lot of these natural wonders** on this trip.

We’ll begin our journey from **Borovets (1350 m)**. From there, we’ll take the gondola lift to the starting point of the trek at **Yastrebets** and begin the hike. The trail takes us on **rocky terrain, offering stunning vistas** of the neighboring peaks as we rise. Ascending gradually, we’ll reach the top, and **what a view it would be from there!**

You’ll **see unobstructed vistas of Rila, Sredna Gora, Vitosha, and the Rodopi Mountains.** The peaks of the **Pirin and the Balkan Range** would also unravel in front of your eyes, **offering an incredible spectacle!**

After a little rest, we’ll head back to Yastrebets and again take the gondola-lift to return to Borovets, ending this **amazing trip.**

Regarding difficulty, it is a **moderate trek** which involves a hike of about 5-6 hours. So, if you have a **fit body with a load of enthusiasm**, you should be just fine!

### **Famous for its stunning peaks, the Balkan Peninsula is full of great mountains that enthusiastic climbers can scale. And, on this 8-day adventure I would like to guide you to the summits of several of those amazing peaks.**

Our trip will begin after you’ve been picked up in the **Sofia Airport**. From there, we will go to the village of **Govedartsi**, where we will spend the night. After that, the climbing will begin. Our first peak will be **Musala (2,925m)**_,_ which is the highest peak not only in **Bulgaria**, but also in the **Balkan Mountain Range**. The next peak on the next day will be **Polejan (2,851m).** On the fourth day we will climb to the summit of the highest peak in the **Pirin Mountains: Mount Vihren (2,914m).**

For day 5, we will go to **Prionia**, where we will spend the night in the lovely **Kakalos Hut (2,650m),** and on the following day, we will make our way to the summit of the highest peak in the **Olympic Mountains: Myticas (2,917m),** which is also known as _Mount Olympus_. Finally, on the final 2 days of the trip, we will return to **Sofia**, where you can explore the amazing city, including a visit to the famed **Rila Monastery and the Stob Pyramids**.

Bulgaria’s capital – Sofia, is a big colorful city with plenty of nearby rock climbing options. Within about an hour’s drive, you can reach a wide variety of locations, suitable for any time of year and for any level.

Join me on this unforgettable Rock Climbing day trip, based out of Sofia, to enjoy some stunning views and explore some of Bulgaria’s top spots.

The day’s activity will be adapted to your experience and preferences. Prior experience is not required. This program is suitable for first-time rock climbers as well as climbers with some experience that would like to go a step further.

We will choose the location depending on the weather forecast and time of year, but some of the more popular locations we can visit include Kominite at Vitosha Mountains or Vratsa Gorge, near the town of Vratsa.

We will meet up in the morning and drive to the climbing area. The day will include climbing several single-pitch or multi-pitch routes. We will get back to Sofia in the evening.

Rock Climbing near Sofia, Bulgaria 

The Pirin Mountains in Bulgaria are a great place for ski touring and mountaineering and on this full-day trip I’d like to guide you to Mt Vihren, the highest point in the range.

The trip starts from Bansko which is a small mountain town that operates as a ski resort during the winter months. It is a fantastic gateway to an abundance of top-notch ski touring and splitboarding locations in the Pirin Mountains. Full of lifts and hiking trails to various spots, you can rest assured that based on your skill level, weather conditions, and your personal preferences, we will find the perfect one for you.  
  
Average difficulty level. You need to be in good physical condition. The altitude gain for the day is around 1300 m. Basic winter mountaineering experience is an advantage. The route requires walking in crampons and an ice axe, using a rope. Do not hesitate to ask in case you have doubts.  
  
We will meet in Bansko to do a briefing for the next day. We will check and adjust your equipment if necessary.

We will have a very early start from Bansko and drive up to the ski area. Our approach to the climb starts here. From the car to the summit it should take us between 4 and 6 hours. Coming back down is another 3-4 hours, so that sums up to a 7-10 hour day. We should be back in the car by early afternoon.
