I was born in 1969 in Ostrava. When I was a child, my parents and I spent most of our free time and weekends in our cottage in Beskydy in the countryside. I started skiing when I was very young, we went to Moravian and Slovak ski resorts. In 2010 I successfully passed my IFMGA exams and I became an official mountain guide. I’m also a photographer and a graphic designer. I’m guiding my friends and clients mainly in the Tatras Mountains. Join me for a backcountry hut-to-hut ski tour in the High Tatras Mountains. The range is located at the border between **Poland** and **Slovakia**. It is part of the **Carpathian** range.

The best time to ski here is from January to March. In fact, the Tatras have quite similar sceneries as the European Alps, they are just less high. Besides, they are less crowded, which will ensure a pleasant traverse.

The set up is excellent for ski touring and offers a lot of diversity in the ski runs: open ridges, tree skiing, gullies and couloirs.

The city of Levoca is a historic town, one of the most beautiful in Europe. During the day spent here (day 9) we will have the chance to rest and relax in the water park.

You'll find here a 10-day program. I can of course adapt it based on the time you have and the snow / weather conditions.

We can also extend the program to include the climb and descent of the highest peak of the High Tatras: **Mount** **Gerlach**. To do this, you need to be good skiers and alpinists. **Avalanche training is essential in order to have great experiences in the mountain. If you are not familiarized with this yet, you should join this 3-day course in the High Tatras.**

This course is designed for backcountry skiers, climbers and hikers on snowshoes. Its main objective is teaching you **how to move safely in a mountainous area**.

You will get a basic knowledge on avalanche issues and learn how to use avalanche gear.

Avalanche course in the High Tatras

**The High Tatras are a mountain range towering along the border of north Slovakia and south Poland. Let's go for an incredible climbing trip there!**

These mountains, which are a part of the **Carpathians**, are also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with many endemic species like the Tatra chamois.

It's also a very attractive region for outdoor lovers, boasting many interesting options for hiking, climbing and skiing.

This time, I propose climbing the 3 highest peaks in Slovakia, in a sort of '**Tatras trilogy**'. It's a **very demanding climbing trip** that can take between 3 to 5 days, depending on your physical conditions and the weather.

Here are the three summits we'll reach:

##### **Mount Gerlach** _(Gerlachovský ští)_

At 2654 m, this impressive pyramid-shaped peak is the highest in Slovakia and also in the whole Carpathians. We can take different routes to ascent this peak, according to the weather conditions and the skills of the group members.

##### **Lomnicky Peak** _**(Lomnický štít)**_

This is the second highest peak of the High Tatras, at 2634 m. It's also one of the most popular attractions in Slovakia, as it has a cable car going up to its summit, where there's an absolutely breathtaking view!

However, we're not taking the easy way. Instead, we'll choose of the several climbing routes.

##### **Ladovy peak (Ľadový štít)** 

At 2627 m, Ladovy peak is probably the most technically challenging climb of this 'Tatras trilogy'.

We'll take an exposed ridge towards the summit, where we'll enjoy a stunning view of the whole High Tatras mountain range.

**I invite you to a 1-day adventure climbing Mount Gerlach (2655m), the highest peak in Slovakia and also in the whole Carpathian Mountains.**

**Mount Gerlach** (also called Gerlachovka) is located in the **High Tatras**, a mountain range along the border of Slovakia and Poland, which belongs to the Carpathians. It is inside **Tatra National Park**, a beautiful natural area surrounded by glacial lakes and pine forests.

This is a very attractive peak for climbing lovers in Slovakia. It demands some technical effort and is considered level II according to UIAA grading system. However, it is important to mention that the only way of getting there is with an UIAGM certified mountain guide.

In this trip, I will guide you to the summit of Mount Gerlach through **Velická Step** climbing route, which is also called ‘the normal route’. 

The starting point for the climbing will be the **hotel Sliezky Dom** (1670m). From there, we’ll walk for 8 kilometers until we reach the summit. This ascent might take between **six to nine hours**, depending on your fitness level.

If the weather is nice, you will enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the whole country from its highest point.

The best time for climbing Mount Gerlach is from late May to late September. There may also be good weather conditions during  October.

Nevertheless, it’s also possible to climb this Slovakian peak in winter, using Batizovská climbing route. In this case, climbing may be harder than doing it during summer.

**The Haute Route Vysoke Tatry ski tour is a beautiful 3-day traverse**. During these touring days we will be far from the classic destination. This means, joyfully, far from the crowd!

We will be going up around 3000 meters in total. Therefore, we will have 3000 meters of glorious descents. The overall length of the traverse is 30 km. An intense and rewarding trip!

The Haute Route traverse lasts for 3 days, sleeping un mountain huts. But I can adapt the program based on the time you have, your ski level and what you are looking for. They key is not to miss the chance to discover this beautiful setting.

We will meet in the High Tatras. The first day includes some exercises with the avalanche transceiver in order to do the traverse in all safety. Then we will progress from valleys so saddles. Besides, on the last day we will do some mountain climbing with our ice axes.

From Hut Plesnivec (1290m) to Hut Zelene pleso (1551m) – Baranie saddle (2390m). Descent to the Mala Studena valley, climb into the Priecne saddle (2350m) and the longest downhill today to Hut Zbojnicka (1960m). Plus the possibility to go down the surrounding gutters.  
Duration: 7-8 hours  
Distance: 12,5km  
D +1640/-970m

First views of the Tatras

We leave the hut and go to the cold saddle (2360m). Enjoy a bit of mountain climbing irons on the ice ax in hand – hence the climb to the top of the Eastern Tall (2430m). Descent through Valleys Velicka and then to Litvorove saddle (2385m) leads us in front of the best downhill entire transition. Gerlachovské spady gradients across to the east of the saddle Vychodna Zelezna brana (2250m), where it will enjoy in the setting sun to hut Popradske Pleso (1495m).

Distance: 11km  
D +1000/-1700m

###### Join me on this fun ice climbing course in the Carpathian mountains.

The **High Tatras lie on the border between Poland and Slovakia**. Many of its peaks are over 2000 meters. The highest summit is  Gerlachovský štít, at 2655 m.  It is an **ideal place for winter activities!**

The flora and fauna in the Tatras mountains are **protected by the Tatras National Park**. The area also combines a wide variety of landscapes: peaks, deep glacier valleys, mountain lakes. You won’t believe your eyes!

During this 3-day program, you’ll learn basic ice climbing skills. Some prior rock climbing experience is definitely helpful. This course is available for first-time ice climbers as well as intermediate climbers.

**– DAY 1:** Meeting at the Zamkovského Mountain Inn. Presentation and informative talk. Night at the lodge.

**The Tatras Mountains are part of the Carpathian mountain chain. It creates a natural frontier between Slovakia and Poland.** It is a beautiful protected area, definitely worth a trip.

**Join me for this beautiful 3-day ski touring traverse in the Tatras Mountains.** We will follow the Tatranska Haute Route and discover the hidden spots of this beautiful region.

The High Tatras is part of the Carpathian Mountains. We will be near the border between Slovakia and Poland. The ski touring terrain is extremely varied, making for rewarding ascents and long descents. Besides, as you travel these slopes you will enjoy the amazing landscapes that this region offers.

This program is ideal for skiers who wish to get the basics in ski touring and learn the safety techniques. It’s also a good preparation for future long ski touring traverses in the Alps.

We will ski around 30km, do 3000 meters of vertical gain and the same distance skiing down. You can find details about the program below.
