Mountain Guide from Brazil.

I’ve been into mountaineering for the last 17 years. I guide each year climbers to the top peaks and climbing destinations in Central and South East Brazil, and also teach rock climbing courses. Besides, I’m a geographer and have a Ph.D in Geology.

As a climber, I reached 39 +6000m peaks in the Andes! I love to lead expeditions in which I take special care of the safety, and of giving useful information to the clients. Is it about mountaineering, geology or geography, I love to teach!

I’ve been a volunteer in many Brazilian mountaineering organizations, and I directed for some years de Brazilian Mountaineering Confederation, fighting for the free access to climbing areas that were about to be prohibited.

So I’ll love to guide anyone who is interested in discovering mountaineering in Brazil!

Climb the iconic Brazilian mountain of Pão de Açúcar that stands guard over Rio de Janeiro at the mouth of Guanabara Bay.

Translating as Sugarloaf Mountain, the peak reaches 396 meters above the harbour, offering panoramic views of the city.

Rising out of the waters just off the coast, the granite and quartz mountain holds many different climbing routes.

Depending on your own level of skill and experience, we’ll take the route that is best for you. But if you already have some rock climbing experience, then this program is perfect for you.

You can choose between a single-pitch route or a multi-pitch route, making it easier or more difficult.

You can climb some of the more classic routes. These include Via dos Italianos, on the west face of the rock formation and ascends directly beneath the cable car. This route requires basic to intermediate skills.

Other classic routes include Chaminé Stop, which was the route of the first ascent of Pão de Açúcar. This route also requires basic climbing skills.

Do you want to learn the basics of rock climbing? Then keep reading! I offer here a course including theoretical and practical classes, as well as a rock climbing outing. The theory classes will take place at **Capão Raso**, in **Curitiba**. Then the practical classes will be in **Quatro Barras**. Finally, we will climb at **Morro do Anhangava**.

My goal is to teach you the basic technical skills to progress on climbing routes in a safe and independent way. We will also go through climbing history, ethics, leading techniques, rappelling and safety procedures. The course lasts in total 20 hours.

It will include the following topics:  
– Introduction to rock climbing equipment (rope, harness, carabiner, quickdraw, abseiling device, sling, cord, helmet, rock climbing shoes).  
– Introduction to climbing knots (figure of eight, clove hitch, double fisherman knot, Italian hitch, overhand knot, Prusik knot).  
– Rock climbing concepts (rock climbing types, climbing grades, equalised belay station, how to belay, backing up a rappel, setting up intermediate protection, climbing ethics and environmental sustainability).

I propose to you the following program for this 4-day course.

**Day 1**  
Meeting Rua Winston Churchill 1481, Capão Raso, Curitiba, where we have the theory class. It will be split in 2 days, during 4:30 hs each day. On this first day the class begins at 6PM.

**Day 2**  
Theoretical class part 2, starting at 6PM.

**Day 3**  
We leave at 7AM from Curitiba. Practical classes in Anhangava and Quatro Barras during the whole day. Return to Curitiba.

**Day 4**  
Same program as day 3 for the second part of the practical classes.

4-day rock climbing course in Curitiba

In this 2 days trekking program we’ll discover the tallest mountain of the Serra do Mar massif: Pico Parana. Starting from Curitiba, in this trip we’ll see beautiful landscapes and enjoy rewarding views from the summit.

The ascent of Pico Paraná is a bit demanding physically. You need some basic experience in trekking. There are some exposed parts in the final stage, but you need technical climbing equipment. You need to be healthy and trained, and willing to enjoy and have fun!

**I propose to you the following itinerary:**

**Day 1: From Curitiba to Itapiroca peak**

We meet at 7 am in Curitiba to check the equipment and do a quick briefing. Then, at 8 am we start the one hour drive that will take us to the starting point of the trek. In total, this day we’ll walk for 5 hours, starting through the forest and then going into open fields, until we reach the summit plateau of Itapiroca, from where we’ll have wonderful views of Pico Paraná. We spend the night camping there.

**Day 2: From Itapiroca to Pico Parana summit, and then back to Curitiba**

Early start with breakfast at 7 am. Afterwards we start the approach to Pico Parana. In between, we leave most of the heavy camping equipment to carry less weight. It will take us 3 hours up to the summit of Pico Parana, where we’ll have lunch and enjoy the breathtaking views. The trek down to the parking lot is of 4-5 hours, and then we have an hour drive back to Curitiba.

**Note:** This is a tentative itinerary, that might change due to weather conditions, group performance, or other situations.

Ascent to Pico Parana, Curitiba

The **Morro de Anhangava** is a small mountain located in the city of **Quatro Barras of Paraná**. It has around 200 climbing routes. Furthermore, it is one of the most traditional places for the practice of rock climbing in the Curitiba region.

The Anhangava is quite different from other sites of the **Sierra Do Mar mountain range**, since it offers a wide variety of routes and climbing styles. Here you can practice from shorter and traditional itineraries to longer and more advanced ones.

Here we will also find the "School Field of Paraná". It is a place of pure nature and amazing views. There are really few places in Brazil where you can climb in a mountainous environment like this.

This **rock climbing day in Anhangava** I am offering is suitable for people who have already taken a previous course. However, there are also easier routes where beginners can review their skills and practice on different surfaces. If you have **some previous experience** you will be able to climb on longer pitches.

In Southern Brazil, the region of Curitiba is great for travellers looking for a climbing adventure. I have been rock climbing in this region for over 10 years now. Therefore, with my experience I can take you to the best places!

One spot that I particularly love is Anhangava. An accessible climbing crag with many short routes (less than 50m). Depending on your experience and performance, I will choose the best route for you. I propose to you a one day outing in this beautiful region.

The rock climbing styles available in Anhangava are pretty varied. You can find face adherence climbing, bouldering, crack climbing and more.

From Curitiba, it takes a 40 min drive and 30 minutes trekking to reach the base of Anhangava rock climbing slags.
